Almost definitely heaven. He poured a lot of money into White Sox telecasts. If not heaven, then he's got a maximum of 500 years (which is nothing) in Purgatory. If that's the case, I look forward to the day when he joins us!

Huge Purdue fan who ended up making enough to buy the naming rights to the field. That's pretty cool.

His commercials ended up being a memory of my childhood along with those Cellozi and Ellison guys. I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing.

I take back what I said--this guy has been in Purgatory already. 200 years tops.

I wonder who had a bigger wang: Celozzi or Ettleson?

Nothing worse than being a Purdue and White Sox fan.

My older brother was a porter for his Honda dealership. For Christmas he gave employees one of those tins of popcorns with his likeness on it.

I laughed my ass off. To see the “lion” on a tin of popcorn. I wasn’t eating that stuff.

If you ever went to one of his dealerships, they were classic high pressure.

Sounds like he played Clark's boss in the movie Vacation.

I just bought a car from him on Saturday.

Have purchased probably 10 cars over the years from them. Great people to work with. You can negotiate without the anger reflecting back at you.

RIP

Damn had the opposite experience at Schaumburg Honda. The guy brought out their opening numbers which showed them trying to sell the car above sticker. When I pointed out that they were trying to charge me more than MSRP, the salesman threw the paperwork at me and said I didn’t really want to buy a car.

Shyster of the first order. He'd steal the fillings out of your teeth. Almost the stereotype of a car salesman. I guess he bought drinks, so good for him.

It's not inherently bad (in terms of morals or quality); it's just added-on pain, which, if you sold out, you could jettison.

No idea he was 87. I wonder if they will continue with the television commercial campaign.

He knew you make more money in a week than most do in a lifetime.

A friend of mine bought a Toyota a few years ago at the Rohrman-owned dealership on Ogden. He paid for it in full as well as a few extras (remote starter etc), for which they needed to keep the car a couple days to install.

He gets a call the next day from the manager saying that one of their porters, in driving the car across Ogden, nearly killed a pedestrian, who was now in a coma. Since my friend was now the owner, the manager told him that he (or his insurance) had to pay the damages.

I think eventually Rob Rohrman himself stepped in and got it resolved (paying his deductible) and gave him some free rustproofing.

Like, with a corpse? That would be gross--but memorable and possibly effective.

Sorry to hear about his passing. I heard he was suffering from an autoimmune disease.

I will never understand buying a car from a dealer. Private party is always the way to go.
