Bob Rohrman gave me creep vibes similar to the MyPillow guy... Coming across as a phony used card salesman in both his ads and in his interviews ive seen.

I've never understood these "stole my wife" lawsuits. She's not property, and it's not like she didn't leave willingly.

I’m glad someone referenced Long Chevrolet in Elmhurst. One more for the old guys:

Bert Weinmann Ford— a staple during Lou Bodreau’s “Lead off man.” Every day after school, if you wanted a Ford Country Squire, that was the place to go.

And, “ there goes one over the fence—true link fence.” Add in Danley’s Garage World, and there is my childhood.

Yep, right after The Lone Ranger and The Cisco Kid.

I always thought it was interesting - a man I knew in his 90s who passed away a few years ago would often discuss going to his Uncle's house (or some relative) when he was a kid to spend some peaceful, quiet time on their sprawling farm...in Schaumburg.

Bob Luce for Ben's Auto Sales. Even as a six year old, I knew that those had to be some shitty cars.

Schaumburg was probably all farmland til the 80's..Id assume.

I still view most of Western Ave in that same vein as a by product.

Probably so. When I lived in Naperville in the early ‘90s, there were still tractors going up 59 between Ogden and 88 for the couple farms that were still there.

In World War II, my uncle was assigned to a farm because my grandfather was ill. It was way out in the country. Lombard.

It was mixed. We moved to the area around Wise Rd in 1983. It was one of the last tracts in that area that was a farm. Not long after much of the Plum Grove Rd corridor was developed, which is actually Elk Grove on the West side.

There were a few farms around Conant bounded by Higgins, Meacham, Plum Grove and Schaumburg Rd locally known as the Polk Brach property. It turned into Park St Claire among other subdivisions in the early 90’s.

There were some other tracts by the airport and in the West, but mostly infill. The majority of the town was developed in the 60’s and 70’s. By 1980, the farms were surrounded by subdivisions.

My family owned a tree farm on Rte 59 south of Ogden back in the day. It’s Plainfield I think. I recall driving down there as a kid and there was nothing on 59. I think we had to take old 53 and backroads to get out there before 88 and 355 went that way.

North of the train station on 59, there was still farmland right on 59. They were the holdouts. They were sitting on a gold mine but they were still farming it.

Obviously, they sold it. A few years later when I was living in Chicago and going to school at UofC, I was in a group with a guy from Naperville that was pretty well-known at that time because he was, I think, the first guy to win $500k on Who Wants To Be a Millionaire and he lived in the development where that field was.

The weird thing was that class also had a Navy guy or one of the services that had won $1 million on an NBC show also. I think it was 21 Questions or something like that. There were only about 40 people in the class.

My great grandfather had a milk delivery business for his brother's dairy farm, in Lombard.

Yeah I recall all that land on 59 which took forever to develop. There was even that huge track east of 59 along 88 which became that big retail development that stayed open for a long time.

I still find Randall Rd amazing. I recall it just being a two lane rd akin to much of 47. Now there is just rinse repeat retail from Aurora to Crystal Lake.

Yep, it was a dairy farm. We think it was the Hoy farm over where 53 twists north of Roosevelt.

My first job was doing the loan accounting for the Cantera development on 88 there for Kemper Financial. Early '90s weren't a great time for real estate development.

That was supposed to have a huge condo development and 36-hole luxury country club.

They ended up with 30 theatres and a Big Bowl and whole bunch of losses.

Cantera, that’s it. The Kemper that went down? What a mess that was.
