He is a terrible 3B and a below average SS. He's good defensively at 2B. And he sure has not shown himself to be a good hitter in his entire history especially a hitter with power.

He isn’t terrible at either. He’s not much of a hitter. But he’s better than Mendick defensively.

The Hawk:

That is a very misleading statistic. He was hitting good until his last few games where he got the collar. That is the problem in the .184 average over a two week period and it is misleading. I'd rather have Mendick who can play all the infield spots and play them well rather than Sanchez is a 2nd baseman period.
Nardi:

You're right, that was misleading. He's stunk since Aug 11(3 weeks) .196 avg .245 OBP
Actually he is not. Here are Mendick's Fielding stats: As this shows, the kid has not had an error in his MLB career of 46 games and 78 innings in 2019 and 237 in 2020. playing 3 positions. That is a damned great performance for anyone as a rookie player. 300+ INNINGS AND NO ERRORS. When you have time, then take a look at what Yolmers stats have been at those three positions.

And, of course, Lopez can't pitch over a fielding error.

No, I said that he was hitting a very respectable .265, went 1-11 and it dropped. HE hit consistently at that average for almost two weeks. That is how I see the guy hitting in the majors, namely at .260-.270 with very good defense at three positions and some pop.

Look, quit playing this bullshit stats game. If you want to do this crap, maybe lets go back to 2019 and trot out his stats back then also and I can make Mendick look better also.

Don't like Mendick? That's your prerogative. I question Madrigal's worth as a player over-all and certainly think that Yolmer is not as good as Mendick. I actually hate stats because of exactly this silly argument that we are having right now, namely selectively pulling off bits of data and trying to extrapolate the meaning of something bigger.

It's all to say Yolmer isn't here by accident. Or that he's teacher's pet which you have alluded to. He's here because THEY don't like what they've seen lately out of Mendick. Not me. THEM. And I doubt they don't know what they have in a 5 year minor leaguer.

That's pure speculation on your part about what they know or don't know about Mendick. All that I know is that Yolmer is not as good a baseball player as Mendick and I think the Sox bringing Yolmer in was pure cheap insurance and nothing else. He signed to a minor league contract and wasn't on the Giants 40 man roster. Plus, I do believe that Yolmer is one of Rickey's long lost children.

As for being a five year minor league player, so what? He's twenty six and had to prove himself every step of the way to the majors unlike other guys drafted higher like so many busts the Sox have had.

I think you see what we are in this series. We have had an incredibly fortunate run of games against bad teams. We can compete with the good but ultimately are just a little short on talent.

Nah. They lost 2 of 3 games. Big deal. They just are in a little hitting slump. I look at the Twins over-all, and the Sox are the better team I think. I still think that Cleveland is the team to beat because they have the best pitching in all of baseball.

One run away from 2/3. If they had a better manager they would have won the series. Too much Grandal and Encarnacion, and putting them way too high in the order.

When Engle, Sanchez, and Madrigal are a 3rd of your line-up, this is last year's team. Think that opposing managers don't know this and arrange their pitching accordingly? Renteria is a big part of this problem. He is a lousy game day manager. He also has been carried up to this point by largely 4-5 players who guess what, can't do it all of the time and start pressing themselves.

Madrigal is hitting .389 and makes productive outs when he isn't getting on base, do you really want to take that out of your lineup?

I'm not saying that at all. I said that when your last three hitters cannot hurt you scoring wise, the other team has a big advantage on how you manage your pitching staff. That line-up the last couple of days was pretty much last years weak shit.

It was a bad hire. It was a bad extension of the hire. I wanted Torey Lovullo. I'm pretty sure he didn't want the White Sox at that time.

I can count 2 good managers in my conscious lifetime. Chuck Tanner and Ozzie. Maybe 3 if you want to count Dave Duncan, as he was the entire strategical brain behind the POS LaRussa

I count two also. Al Lopez and Chuck Tanner. I hated La Russo because of his complicity in the use of roids and HGH and Ozzie was just a ding bat.
