I'm forgetting the Maglite story. Didn't someone's sister start to post here and then admitted to masturbating with a flashlight?

Ryno's Wife, but she later said that it was a joke. Darko wasn't happy.

I couldn't possibly imagine why.

It was Darkside's sister? That's funny. I'd like to meet her at Lakemoorefest. Did any of you get your invitation?

The Webio implosion was the reason I found this board.

I joined in 2006. It was the MJH glory days. I hit a point where life got in the way, so I did miss the Webio implosion. I was there for the Maglite.

I've been going through my dad's lifelong collection of worthless junk, throwing stuff away as my family gets ready to put him in A Facility. (There's a whole cabinet of airchecks that I want to digitize for posterity but I don't know how to work an open reel.) Anyway, I found the business cards for a project he must have worked on like 20 years ago: a freelance writing job for a bilingual telenovela produced in Chicago, presumably for CANTV at first but with greater aspirations that never materialized. (I presume he only punched up the English parts.) Anyway, the executive producer on the card is none other than David Hernandez. I know that's a beyond-common name, but the harebrained-scheme nature of this whole production as I remember it from growing up (at one point it was supposed to be relaunched as a talent show?!?) leads to believe my dad freelanced for the Webio guy.

Mac referenced the site on air enough that I knew about it, and I came here to watch for a while, must have been during guest posting era. We don't have the best of internet speeds available, so it wasn't really frequent. I knew that there were a ton of guys with really quick wit who could fashion a hilarious reply in seconds to almost any post, and I was shy and ignorant of the community. I hung around enough to know and interact with HHJ, then her passing was the trigger to spend much more time online. The community and outpouring of emotions/friendship was astounding. I have always wanted to participate in the community outings, and still hope to do so.

Our joined dates say 2005 but that is only because the previous joined dates were wiped out in some malfunction. I think I got here sometime around 2003 after the site was posted on WSI.

You were already here but weren't you also here for a previous generation of the board?

I think about it and even at 2005, that is 14 years at this place. I didn't think I had kids when I started posting.
2005.

Clearly the board has followed the SNL model.

Nice. Board history thread. I was on that original board that Doug mentioned. Can’t remember the exact year, but 2002-03 sounds about right. Morning show on the score was Murph and Fred - my radio alarm clock went off with their opening jingle. For younger audience, that’s what people used before smart phones.

Side note: does anyone know what the hell are those guys up to? I haven’t listened to radio in ages.

Murph and Fred you mean?

They had a Saturday morning radio show on AM 1000 last 3/4 years. But they fired Murph earlier this year. It was pretty awful. He came into work and then Fred had to announce that Murph has suddenly 'retired'. Scumbag move by am 1000.

Fred is still on sat/sun mornings now w/ Hanley.

I had a job that sucked out of college and 670 was a decent escape but i had noone to discuss this stuff with really.

I found this in 2013 after they were taking calls on jay cutlers injury. Dan was being so obnoxious and Terry completely worthless and the only other person i knew to talk about it with was on vacation.

I was like, there has to be some fb page on the internet or something that discusses it and i remember searching "dan bernstein is an idiot" and threads from here popped up.

I was a forum junky. I was apart of the Something Awful forum and a few other forums as early as 2001. Couldn't believe it took me this long to find this place.

FB groups have replaced most of the forums and this is now 1 of 2 I check regularly.

I just don't understand how facebook pages or twitter are seen as a substitute for a forum.

Twitter, not so much

Facebook has groups, which are almost like the sub forums here (Cubs, Sox, Bernstein sucks cock, etc)

Its mostly possible with topical forums. Even so every given forum has its most traveled subforum in its index. This forum is a bit dfferent because it covers a fairly wide berth of topics but if all i did was want to talk bears football, i could find many groups on FB where I could do that.

I have other interests that I sought out forums for over the years (investing, fantasy football, bbq) but as I do a ton of hunting and fishing I gravitated to many of these types of forums. Most forums were/are regional. often you are inundated with posts/info that isn't pertinent to your locale.

On FB you can find hyperfocused groups that is larglely geared towards what you are looking for.

example, i'm looking for walleye fishing reports in the quad cities. Most forums as i said are regional. So i have to wade through reports of perch at the navy pier, catfish in quincy, and small mouth bass in prairie du chen. on FB i just go to QC walleye reports. and i'm done.

Most of the forums that i went to are either ghost towns with an occasional wanderer or are gone.

I know what they are and I'm on some. I just think they have a completely different vibe
