Not just for the Sox, but for all teams. I haven't heard people discuss this but it crossed my mind.

Let's say the Sox are locked into the 5 seed with 4 or 5 games to go. Yet they can still overtake the Twins and/or Indians to get 2,3 or 4 seed.

I say fuck it. Set up the rotation for the playoffs at that point.

It's a 3 game series in the first round. I don't want to try to improve my seed at this point. I want my 1 and 2 pitchers going in the playoffs no matter who we play.

I think all teams should think this way.

Improving your seed does not matter in the last 3 or 4 games if you don't have your pitchers lined up for the playoffs. It's a no brainer to me.

What do you think?

Hate to tell you Beardown, but Steve and Jason talked about this exact thing today during the broadcast... and it was before you posted. :(

Well, I didn't hear it. And I brought this up to my Dad a week ago. So i win.

I'm not saying I'm the only one to think of it. I just personally haven't heard it discussed.

I agree it is a no brainer. Get your pitchers lined up.

Is anyone saying it isn't a no brainer?

Probably not.

I guess we'll see how all the teams handle it. But yeah, I doubt any team that has the playoffs locked up will risk their playoff rotation to get a better seed in the last few games.

Especially cuz there is no home field advantage anyway with no fans. And it likely being in a bubble after the first round.

I was only sad because I wanted the patented Beardown screenplay post where they read your post and then do something on air about it. They are pretty entertaining, so maybe just pretend that is how they heard about it. ;)

Well Beardown suggested it so by definition...

I don’t know if it matter much if the Sox have their top two going in games 1-2 or 1 and 3. They must win the games those guys start because I don’t think cease is ready for a playoff start

The Sox playoff outlook pretty much depends on heroic efforts from both giolito and Keuchel. They will have to buck the trend of short leashes for starters in the playoffs

I"m going to get hammered for this statement but I can't figure out why Keuchel is good. I'm pleased as punch that he is but....

He's a 5 and fly guy. He has a 0.68 ERA through 4, and a 10.24 ERA after 4.

They simply dont have the arms. Its obvious.

Dunning is a nice reinforcement but for Lopez to make zero progress (actually he got worse) and for Kopech to opt out was fatal. Lots to look forward to, but unless the offense just goes full annihilation mode this isn't gonna be the year I'm afraid. That said, it was totally the right move not to give up Vaughn or Madrigal in a desperate attempt, because I dont think adding Lance Lynn would've made a lick of difference in the end.

Trevor Bauer is a free agent. I think he's gotta be top of the Sox list, and there's more than a couple indications that we are on his radar too. By 2021 Dunning will be stretched out and ready for full-time duties.

With this schedule, I don't see what others teams are in the other two divisions. But I know we are not as good as Minnesota. And Cleveland keeps finding pitching under rocks and bushes and shit.

The pitching just needs to get healthy and they have as good a chance as anyone In the AL. They have the best line-up top to bottom in all of baseball. They have a slugger's chance. I am hoping a lot that Rodon is going to make it make healthy and be able to be the dominant lefty out of the pen when they have to go to a 3rd or 4th starter. When he is right, there are few lefties with as much movement on their pitches. It may to a 50-50 proposition on him being right but I think that he is a key going forward.

More like 20/80. Let's assume his stuff is as good as ever and healthy as a horse. He still needs 4 starts to get in rhythm and have command. That's his history. That means he has to make a start by Thursday. The rotation is scheduled for the next 6 games.

I'm not convinced the Twins are better than the Sox.

The Sox ran out of gas after a long stretch of foot to the floor ball. They were gassed Game 2 after a huge effort in Game 1, and by Game 3 they had nothing left in the tank and pitched their worst guy.

Giolito, Keuchel, Cease, and Dunning could focus for 4-5 weeks very easily.

They are roughly the same caliber as the 4 who did it for the Sox in 2005, although not as experienced.

Colome is going to be honed sharp by the playoffs.

He is getting a lot of work, in a lot of pressure situations.

They really, in my opinion, just need some of the bullpen guys to become household names. It can happen, but they have to step up.

They can win one, three game series. After that, they are toast.

I'll take winning a series as they have exceeded expectations this year.

I would rather win the Cubs series than win the World Series.

It would be a nice bonus to win the World Series so I say we do it.

In the middle of a 15-4 stretch, they lost 2 of 3 to a Twins team that had lost 6 straight. I'm not knocking the Sox for being bumslayers, that's what good teams do, but the fact is they don't play anybody good other than the two teams that they lost to in 4 series.

That's why this is a bs season. We know absolutely nothing about the comparative quality of any of the teams in relation to the teams outside their division.

I'm happy the young guys are getting ab and the pitchers are getting innings.

This record is built on the backs of the Royals.
