Still more attractive than Dorothy Tillman.

That's a low bar <shudder>

I figured you were old enough to appreciate it.

Dorothy used to come in with her entourage a couple of times a week when the Council was in session. Swore like a sailor and loud if she was upset about something, which she usually was.

Gene Sawyer came in almost every weekday when he was an alderman. He sat at the counter with his sister who was a bailiff at the Civic Center courts and pretty good looking in uniform in her late 30s. They were both incredibly nice people, or at least cordial. I learned that he was an engineer by original training when he found out I was going to be going to engineering school for undergrad.

Hugh Hill came in most weekdays as well. He was as orange in person as he was on TV.

Chet - you sound like a real big wig about town. What are you doing here then? :)

Waiting to meet Spaulding.

My father and uncle hustled and had a good business location. Jane Byrne and her cronies cost my dad a true retirement and thus me as well. So instead of living on Coronado Island and worrying about the finger injury to Eric Hosmer and the lack of an NHL franchise, I'm here killing time before writing a tech memo.

So I'm sure that you remember the tale of when a Council meeting got particularly heated and she had to be restrained from pulling out her .38. Or was it in her hat?

And yeah, Sawyer was a thoroughly decent, if not milquetoast guy. Just like Burris.

Edit. I find it hilarious that you still refer to it as the Civic Center courthouse

Well at the time, it still was.

Dorothy did at least pull the 38 out enough for people to see it, but she was restrained by her colleagues and put it back. She was lucky that she didn't get arrested for that stunt.

I don't know all the details of her politics but Jane Byrne seemed to have been universally hated. The hillary before hillary of her time.

How she screw over your lot?

Too long and depressing to tell here. But it is related to Block 37 and some Democrats wanting less working class and middle class Blacks going to the Loop for their evening and weekend entertainment options.

Was Ronny's black-owned?

Why is everyone dancing around this?

For all the talk about supporting black-owned businesses, nobody wants to mention this.

For me, I walked in once, lured by the $10 steak prices. I looked around, trying to find a hope, and I just couldnt. I walked out.

You people's experiences pretty much confirmed my suspicions.

I never ate there, but I always took an odd sense of comfort in knowing that no matter what time of day, night or morning you walked by their location there was always someone in there eating a steak. Used to make me smile every time I walked by.

That's exactly how I felt. It will be strange not having it there.
