I saw the last four innings. Caratini called a fabulous game, but Mills' curve was outstanding.

Why aren't Len and JD interviewing Mills? This lady seems nice enough but why can't we hear questions from a former Major League pitcher?

ya that was weird. maybe Marquee is trying to give her more airtime. She had an entire segment yesterday w/ Cubs memorabilia. Kasper kept putting her in a bad spot and she looked pissed thru the whole segment.

The Pirates and Brewers are the only MLB teams to be no hit so far this season. That NL Central sure is a juggernaut.

I didn't get out of bed until 5pm, so I missed both the Cubs and Bears games. Marquee is replaying the Cubs game at 10pm. I set the DVR. :D

Yes. It was fun, but lets not saturate our panties yet. This guy is Phil Humber. Prepare for a couple years of 5+ ERAs.
Plus his voice. I just can't.

In case you missed it... another Javy play I’ve never seen before. He advanced to third on a sac fly. Timeout isn’t called and the brewers make a throw to second to appeal him tagging up. As the third baseman starts walking to second javy starts walking toward home. When he throws to second he breaks and easily beats the throw.

When he does stuff like that you can almost overlook his Mendoza line batting average

Count on him for what? He's got 15 MLB stats and until today he's never even been "just a guy".
Today is most likely a fluke. It was fun, NGL, but chances are it was just a fluke.

Im comparing him to Quintana who's proven he's good for nothing and not tough enough. I know Mills will give it his all and actually give a shit unlike Q who never had any heart, guts, or accountability.

Mills shows me he will give 110%, good or bad. Quintana proves to all of us he'll give a best 70% and the rest of the 30% is if he feels like it that day.

See thats refreshing. Most people think Quintana just doesn't have talent. You think he has it but doesn't use it.
It is original

ya he has talent. but there is no drive w/ him. he comes from when the WSox had no accountability. When he could give up 10 runs in a game and nobody in that organization gave a shit. So that's what he's use to. That's why you can't count on him.

Explain to me the concept of accountability. What should he do if he gives up 10 runs? Do you think he should lose a finger tip on his right hand? Should he go to the penalty box and feel shame? Help me. Ive never understood the concept of accountability in pro sports, at least in regards to player personnel, I get it with management.

No he should get better w/ his game. Not just don't give a shit. Study the hitters, improve his technique, better his game. Be a leader and lead by example.

When the cubs got him all the Sox Fans on here said the same thing to us cub fans. We were blind to their warnings thinking it was just sox fans shitting on the new cubs pitcher. but now that we've seen Q the last 2 years, we realize the sox fans were right all along.

Well, Mr. HawaiiYou, I wasn't expecting this to become a referendum on Quintana. But here goes anyway.
He wasn't acquired by the Cubs to be a #1 starter. They had Hendricks and Lester and Arrieta fling those spots. So he was to be a 4th or 5th. And he filled that role well. He's still 10 games over .500 which ain't bad for a 3rd starter.
What were you expecting him to be, an ace starter? Of course you're disappointed.

Or will remember. No name guy did it on an NFL Sunday.

Good for him, though.

No, I'm expecting him to be a #4 or #5 still.

I saw and plenty of others did too. It got a lot of pub on mlb.com as it was the top headline on the page all night and still at this moment.

since the score didnt talk about it and was full of NFL shows today doesn't mean nobody saw it.

Mills reminds me a lot of Rick Reed, a late round draft pick of the Pirates who ended up having a half dozen good seasons as a #3-#4 control type for the Mets and Twins after bouncing around some bad teams (Pirates, Royals) as a AAAA swing guy.

Reed didn't get a real chance until he was past 30. Mills got his chance now at 28. He needs Caratini behind the plate because he needs someone who has more nuance in his pitch calling than Contreras. Caratini did a great job of recognizing how to spot the curve all around but outside of the strike zone, and stole a couple of strikes in the four innings that I watched.

The most important thing is that Mills had less than one year of service time coming into this year. He can sit in that #4 spot in the rotation for a couple of years at virtually no cost while the Cubs decide if they are reloading or rebuilding after the new CBA.

Anything else, like today, is gravy.
