Or will remember. No name guy did it on an NFL Sunday.

Good for him, though.

I saw and plenty of others did too. It got a lot of pub on mlb.com as it was the top headline on the page all night and still at this moment.

since the score didnt talk about it and was full of NFL shows today doesn't mean nobody saw it.

When are you gonna take a another break from the board? An actual long break.

why do you keep stalking me from thread to thread? you don't read why they put the hammer down? i'm reporting you.

Mills reminds me a lot of Rick Reed, a late round draft pick of the Pirates who ended up having a half dozen good seasons as a #3-#4 control type for the Mets and Twins after bouncing around some bad teams (Pirates, Royals) as a AAAA swing guy.

Reed didn't get a real chance until he was past 30. Mills got his chance now at 28. He needs Caratini behind the plate because he needs someone who has more nuance in his pitch calling than Contreras. Caratini did a great job of recognizing how to spot the curve all around but outside of the strike zone, and stole a couple of strikes in the four innings that I watched.

The most important thing is that Mills had less than one year of service time coming into this year. He can sit in that #4 spot in the rotation for a couple of years at virtually no cost while the Cubs decide if they are reloading or rebuilding after the new CBA.

Anything else, like today, is gravy.

ya it's a great story! you're right, anything you get out of him is gravy. happy for the kid. don't understand why people would dislike him for the way he talks. i don't give 2 shits how he talks or how he walks. as long as he performs that's all i care about.

The Pirates and Brewers are the only MLB teams to be no hit so far this season. That NL Central sure is a juggernaut.

Glad to see the Brewers finally got it done, they have been trying to do this all year.

Yep, Giolito's was better.

We all know Alec Mills is just another Phil Humber.

Wrong. Humber was perfect. Those are remembered forever.

I caught about a minute of Mills being interviewed this morning, and later it hit me: he is the pitching version of David Bote.

Bote is two things:
1. A useful PH especially with RISP, where he does surprisingly well compared to the rest of his game.
2. A guy who can play competently at 2B/3B to give guys a day off, but he's going to be a below average hitter and should bat 8th.

A team where David Bote is getting more than 50 PA a month is either injury-riddled or just bad. But he signed his contract being aware of what he is and what he isn't, he doesn't have to worry about being non-tendered, and he plays his role and can then choose to retire for the rest of his life.

Back to Mills...
Mills has the possibility of being similar, except the risk of arm issues kicks in and muddles things. He should never be starting a playoff game, but he has a chance to be a good bumslayer #4, especially against mediocre three true outcomes hitters like most of Milwaukee's lineup. In the NL Central, he matches up well against all four divisional opponents, although like Hendricks he shouldn't start at GABP.
