I'm not going to lie, I've always had a bit of a thing for you, Mac.
Until the last 18 months of so, you were a bit of a roughneck. A man's man. And to my delight, a bit of a curious sort as well.
This last tweet, innocent as it may be, is a nail.
Just know you were loved by not just the macho demo you sought after but my kind as well.

Danny Mac is fine, although it sounds like he is gone after the Super Bowl in 2022 based upon his own wishes. He has hinted that his planned exit is around then and he's looking to buy an RV for then.

Wasn't he working as a car salesman prior to his current stint at the Score?

very briefly

how long would you say he has been out of radio work in the last 35 years, despite addictions, fights, comments and bad interactions with management

He turned into Boers level of commitment to the job. But he isn’t funny enough to skate by. He was a man’s man, but now he’s evolved into a relatively uninteresting host. I always liked him, and Chicago talk radio is better with him on air. But he is just a shadow of his former self.

And there’s no use defending him. Ogie said it right in the other thread with guys like Portnoy. This stuff just rolls off their backs. But now that the Score has lost its edginess, the bland and politically correct station will have to take action.

Yep, and part of that is having corporate partners like the Cubs. The old Score would have welcomed the fight.

He started out with and edge, and even specifically mentioned less political talk when he started. Now they are making the case for reparations. Catch it live afternoons on the Score.

Yeah and I get it. The Twitter mobs would go after the corporate brands if they don’t take action. It’s too bad the whole place can’t just say it was a simple joke. Unfortunately we get bland commentary because of this stuff. My enjoyment is derived from the on air hosts getting what they deserve with their nonstop self righteousness about the ways in which we should enjoy sports or differing opinions on political matters.

As I recall, he was off the air for a year or two prior to his most recent return to the airwaves. I'm too lazy to look this up, though.

Yeah, I couldn’t imagine listening to the score these days.

The reason I find LeBatard so much better than anything else is they have found a way of staying silly, and working small amounts of SJW into their shows.

Also, very light sports talk most of the time with a great list of guests.

Terry was fantastic in his prime, in the DH as a writer, on Chicago Sports Fire (think that was the shows’s name) on tv, and definitely on the Score.

He just had a long run of laziness.

No one suffered from corporate constraint more than TB.

Seems the CBS takeover is when his dementia went into overdrive.

From reading his Facebook post and seeing how much he has changed, I don't care to listen to him again. I do think it is fabulous what he does for his son though, he is a good father.

Advertisers like Heavenly Bodies, Scott's Pet Shop, or Shoeless Joe's wouldn't have given two shits about it.

Nothing will ever exceed the chemistry of the HFC where Terry would have Mac laughing like crazy on air. I used to laugh just hearing Mac laugh. It was fun all the time. But back then Terry had thoughts on everything.

Mac was my favorite. But peak Terry probably exceeds anyone else in Chicago, even Chet or North. But just one Pulte lover’s opinion.

I always enjoyed Mac more than Terry on the HFC, but that's a matter of taste, I suppose.

It's important to remember just how important callers were to the first five years of the Score.

There were many entertaining regulars--Wild Bill, Irish Bill, Bob from Palatine, Patio Steve, Cleveland Mike, Cicero Bob, etc--and they were crucial in creating the station's image as a welcoming, fun, and energetic place (a "saloon" as Mac used to say) for sports talk. That was, of course, prior to the corporate consolidation of the airwaves (facilitated by the 1994 Telecommunications Act), when the station could afford to maintain a populist, pro-fan stance that was skeptical of ownership. The media landscape--and accompanying ideological perspective--is obviously vastly different today.

You're right about the callers making the station. Now its just the hosts just talking incessantly and reading text messages.

Totally. They were great, and it was never the same after the lineup changes. Sure, B&B had its runs, but the station lost in the long run.

Mentioned in the other thread, but the show's Twitter handle has been changed to @TheParkinsShow.

I think he's done.
