Wow, sd. Best wishes.

That’s a lot to go through I’m sure. Can’t imagine.

What's going on, sd?

Just 26 years of rarely taking my foot off the gas has caught up to me.
I have liver problems and ascites, which is fluid that builds up in your paritoneal cavity because the liver isn't functioning the way it should be. I had 6 liters of fluid drained out my belly this morning so hopefully after an AM blood test, I can finally go home tomorrow after 8 days. Dpctpr is gonna ret and get me on the transplant list, but I'm gonna need more than 8 days clean. But I'm hopeful and optimistic Thanks for asking.

Sorry to heat this shirtless.

On a positive note, your pain tolerance must be off the charts to be walking around with that type of fluid in your abdominal cavity.

Pls keep us informed on how you are doing. Feel better soon.

Sorry to hear that Shirtless. Gayle Sayers death got me to thinking about one of my guys (who was friends with his son in high school) that had similar liver and kidney problems a few years back. Good health to you.

Sorry to hear shirtless.

I may talk about drinking in this section but I really do it on the rare occasion. I'm even to the point I go to bars and parties without having a drink. The next day is always better without the sauce.

I would like to sincerely thank the Good Doc, LTG, Dolphin and Seacrest for your well wishes and support. I had a good run from October 2016 to Feb 2018 absolutely devoid of beer and absolute sobriety, then I gradually dipped my toes into waters I'd already almost drowned in , in the past, like the idiot that I am. Then cue October 2019 when my Mom died, it escalated pretty quick from there until last week when the ascites became unbearable. Checked into hospital, and I think I weighed in at about 205lb. After a week, fluid restrictions, no salt, then finally the drainage yesterday, after I took an hour long shower, finally back at home, about an hour ago, I stepped on 2 different scales we have, both zeroed out perfectly. A neat 172.0 lbs on both (naked) 174 lb. fully clothed. Lost over 25 lbs in a week, and actually most of that in about a painless 15 minutes yesterday with the paracentesis. :D :D :D :D :D So thanks again, you guys, I am optimistic and have many things I've written down over the last week I want to concentrate on and get my life and family back where we belong. Peace be with you all.

Glad to hear you're feeling better, Shirtless. In one of your earlier posts, it sounded like you might need a liver transplant. Is that the case?

Best wishes to you. Please let us know how you're doing.

Thank you Hawg, thank you Reader, thank you Midget. Physically, I feel much better and will only continue to feel better now that I'm back home with my family, cats, bed and stuff.

Midget, I was reviewed and approved by UW Madison back in 2017 to be submitted to the transplant eligible list. I already had 6 months behind me, so that whole summer, more months tic'ed past. What they didn't tell me was that AODA counseling/AA meetings, in or outpatient counseling weren't merely suggestions or possible resources at my disposal, but actual REQUIREMENTS, so by the end of Summer 2017, they called me and said they were talking me off the list for "failure to comply with terms", even though I was staying 100% sober and taking blood and pee tests every week without fail. Talk about a kick in the balls, after another 6 months of abstaining 100%, I said F it, because the ascites had resolved itself, and I started drinking occasionally until it steamrolled to the point it got to last week. But today, one of the GI docs in my doctors' groups told me again what I remember him telling me in 2014 in his adorable Italian accent. 'Jeffrey, you are still young and no one wants to see you die. But to your liver,1 beer is like 6, so your next beer may be your last'. Moral of the story: Even though I've lived to beat it again, LISTEN TO YOUR DAMN DOCTOR. It's entirely possible I could've already gotten a new liver 3 years ago if not for the misunderstanding about the AODA. He said I'm not knocking on heavens door, but it's serious enough where they want to get me back on the list ASAP. This time, I'll ask more questions and do WHATEVER it takes if it means 30 more years instead of 2. Thanks again, friends.

Good luck shirtless. My father in law got a transplant... shoot, must be 30 years ago as a guy in his mid 40’s, asking a billion questions seems like a good plan.

Thanks DS. Your FIL got his transplant 30 years ago? And he was in his 40's if I follow correctly? WOW. Any anecdotal stories or info about rejection drugs? One of my doctors told me the liver is one of the easiest organs to xplant and the Anti-rejection drugs are basically a non issue in 2020. :)

He got the transplant sometime In the 80s, maybe 1990, as best I can recall (before my time) so he would have been between no more than 46. I think his only issue with rejection drugs over the years is being concerned with being immunocompromised so is careful about certain things. From what I’ve been told his liver is in great shape, probably,y healthiest part of body. He lived hard.

Well, no offense sd(and clearly wishing you all the best), but I'm having some Tito's and watching the debate.

Dr. Ken Jr. III is required to watch 25 minutes of the debate for his Civics class. So this could be interesting.

He's stating he's a Biden guy. But he's 15 so he can't vote.

Hope things are going to get better, Frank.

My day was crazy enough that I forgot that the Cubs were playing a playoff game today. Somebody gave me an update around 5pm.

If you had told 13-year-old Dr. Ken that the Cubs had a playoff game, I would not have slept the night before. Sucks getting old.

Today has been a lot better.

I'm a little surprised you slept last night. Don't you get up like 4 times a night to pee?

Twice to pee. Once to check Twitter. Once to eat some potato chips.

It was a shit day. Had to deliver some bad news to a guy that worked hard but we decided to go a different way.

Tito's. At least I am working from home tomorrow. I get way more done at home than being in the office.

At least I'll probably remember to check the Cubs game.

Thank you, Matt, Doug, Brick, Jet, Delaney, Frank, and Hawksfan.
Don't even give me a second thought about the Titos or other stuff.
I can still live vicariously thru your adventures.

To answer you question, HawksFan, I've pretty much been a 12'er a day for half my life (give or take). Only beer. Occasional hard stuff (Beam, Jaeger, wine?) Never had Titos.....
I don't know if I've spent more money on music/concerts or alcohol since 1994. It's gotta be close.

I am on my second 12 pack of traditional Coors this week. Cobra Kai really put that beer back on my radar. I wonder if they paid for the product placement, and I wonder how much their business is up because of it.
