Spend a week driving LA traffic on the 5, or the 405.

It will make you want to buy a gun and start targeting motorcyclists.

OMG YES! Those riders are crazy. Scares the shit out of me every time.

Once I figured out in LA it was LEGAL for motorcycles to shoot the lane spaces between cars on highways I was scared to change lanes. I can't imagine having the nuts to not expect someone to pull in front of you as a biker.

Half the people in Cali say it’s legal, and the other half say no. I never looked it up. I suspect it’s like the speed limit and generally ignored unless you’re driving like a mad man.

It's called lane splitting and it's definitely legal. Certain limitations to it, for sure, but I couldn't imagine doing that and I'm definitely not opposed to situational aggressive riding myself.

And I have heard people tell me it’s definitely illegal. Californias argue about it all the time. But you’re probably right because I really can’t see cops allowing it otherwise because it’s so dangerous.

Ok this explains why people used to be confused...

California

Since 2016, lane splitting has been entirely legal in the state of California. It is one of the only states in the entire country to legalize the practice specifically. Before that, laws regarding the practice were ambiguous, and it was neither legal nor illegal.

The first time I saw it I was shocked. It seems pretty damn dangerous.

Some jackass in a car decides to get territorial and move closer to the biker's line or someone from out of town and unfamiliar with the process decides to react even more aggressively? Pass.

So, I'm reading twitter and apparently Cookie Monsta died...and I was like they killed Cookie Monster? Why would Sesame Street kill Cookie Monster? And then I realized that I'm old and have no clue.

There are times I'm very happy to be old and have no clue.

As long as we’ve got Snarf, I’ll be ok. And yes, I have sampled the Thundercats since they put the entire series on Hulu.

I met Southpaw once with Young Crest.

He seemed like a good dude.

Kind of quiet now.

Bought a $5 scratch ticket at lunch. Scratch off the numbers and I have 10 winners. Doing the math in my head, and figure $5 ticket, so that's at least $50. Good lunch break for me... Scratch off the prizes and they are $2 each. Seems almost like fraud. Why not put 1000 numbers on the ticket, and when someone wins, have the payout for each one be .01. Oh well, a little extra money in my pocket.

We typically send our small beef herd to slaughter in March-April each year. This year, I was pushed back into early May as they took on a herd from a larger producer who booked up all of April. I didn't book right then, but called in July to secure March-April 2021. The earliest they could get me in was October 2021! The waiting list for openings is 80 people deep.

Apparently the Covid-related closings of the huge packing plants along with cancellation of all the local summer fairs has created this monstrous over supply of animals for processing. I am picky in that I want a place that accepts the live animals vice slaughtering here on farm. I also need something relatively close, we already send customers 50 miles each way to the current shop. This place has provided good service and good prices for nearly 30 years, and I recognize that I'm not big enough to demand special treatment no matter how long we've been patrons.

I called another shop Monday, about 75 miles away- they are booked until March 2021 for hogs and all of 2021 is booked for cattle. They won't be booking any of 2022 cattle for several more months, either.

I have a call in to the truck driver who hauls our cows around to see if he deals with any other places. I'm nearly reaching the actual Chicago stockyards in distance away, if only they were still in operation!

Of course, this delay isn't only an issue for my customers, I need to feed the fat cows an extra six months without growing them too huge to be tasty. And I need to decide when I'll get the replacement heifers in, and how to handle two groups of differently-aged animals in facilities designed only for one bunch at a time.

I should just move.
