"Rod Stewart may be the greatest rock vocalist in history"? I didn't see that coming.

He was a Yardbird's reject. But he sure liked to bust amps with his guitar in the movie, "Blowout."

What in the ever-loving fuck are you talking about?

This may be one of the all-time dumbest takes in CFMB history.

Step away from the meth.

Rod Stewart is certainly in the conversation.

No one did, not even Rod Stewart.

Faces-era Rod was pretty damn great, but it all went downhill from there.

Forget about the disco and Great American songbook stuff and just look at his Faces era work. I'm not sure who you could argue was better.

Daltrey would be my choice, but early Rod is pretty great.

Cornell is my non Daltrey greatest RR voice.

This is correct. I can't tell you exactly what it is that makes Eddie different than those guys but it's definitely there. And I don't mean the fact that he invented the style either. There's a feel and soul to his playing that the imitators obviously lack.

Another stupid Rube take. Eric Johnson is not a tapper, let alone anywhere near the same genre as Vai and Satriani. You may not care for their music, but at least try and find some guitarists to slag that are at least close to the same bucket.

As for as what JORR says above, I think Eddie never got/gets enough credit for his GROOVE. He was a hell of a RHYTHM player. Listen to his parts during the verses of “Beautiful Girls”, or “Mean Street” as a couple of examples - his swing, and subtle little note or chord choices and changes on different lines of the verses have feel and swing.

The only thing Rube knows about tapping is using his foot in an airport men's room.

Freddy Mercury

yep....the list starts here.

Rod with the Faces was pretty awesome, but there's a whole lot better and more important.
Jim Morrison
Robert Plant
DLR and Sammy
Bon Scott
Ian Gillan

Whoa...let's reel this back in to guitar.

Especially with no mention of Paul McCartney's vocals.

The problem is that the Beatles ALS can’t let any music discussion go without trying to shoehorn one of them into the discussion. The idea of McCartney as an all time great vocalist is laughable.

What's laughable is that you don't consider McCartney, and likely Lennon, great vocalists.

As a young Pete Townshend said, take away their vocals and the beatles were kind of lowsy.

Of all things, Page played the violin bow on his guitar and made the most incredible, eerie and haunting sounds with it you've ever heard. His bow playing should be R rated. He also played the mandolin on the Battle of Evermore and the Theremin. He was a genius in every respect.

I'm not saying I don't like EVH. Of course I do. But if you really consider his music critically, he was limited. He explored the Strat very well and was a good synthesizer player. Rarely, did you hear his acoustic guitar playing, only on songs like Ice Cream Man and Dreams. And with Dreams, only at the beginning. I would have liked him to have played acoustic more, but his playing was defined by the flanger sound on electric. You really don't know what an acoustic EVH sounds like. Same thing with Hendrix. Didn't play the instrument that much.

Page didn't model Zeppelin on but anything but himself. If you think otherwise, you are imagining things. He started by copying blues artists and Joan Baez. Acoustically, he was influenced by Bert Jansch and CSN and Scott Mckenzie. When you put all those elements in a black pot, and throw in Aleister Crowley and the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, that's Jimmy Page.

Ever hear Spanish Fly? You like Cathedral? As Minooka mentioned and Ed stayed it’s wasn’t about tapping, fastest just to play fast. It was the groove. That was his two things the groove and he was a constant tone chaser. Save the bow playing a kid could do that. EVH idolized Zeppelin as most then did.

There is no reason the blemish his memorial thread with nonsense about a heroin addled child fucker.

On account of JHB. Like Dan Bernstein and Boobgate, he owns it.
