I’m sorry, but you can’t name 5 better films Martin has made that I will agree with.

Taxi Driver
Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore
Goodfellas
King of Comedy
Mean Streets
Raging Bull
Last Temptation of Christ
After Hours
The Color of Money

And that's not even getting to "Casino" or "The Aviator"...

if you think WOWS is better than the above listed, that's just wrong. it's a decent movie but it's pretty derivative.

yep, add After Hours as well which was much better than WOW.

Edit: never mind just saw it in there. Should add the Departed as well, much better than WOW

Taxi Driver? Fine that works.

I’ve never seen Raging Bull.

This movie is better than Gangs of New York.

It’s just as good or maybe a little better than the Departed. Even tho I absolutely love the Departed.

Someone who ranks MS films, but hasn't even seen Raging Bull is the equivalent of a 14 year old telling you that LBJ is better than MJ.

Also, anyone who ranks Casino over Goodfellas is immediately disqualified from ever giving an opinion again related to movies.

I really didn’t think the thread would go like this when I hit submit.

For the record I saw Casino years before I watched Goodfellas, so that probably is why I like it better.

Both great movies.

Clyde Drexler was a helluva basketball player and in the HOF, but he's not even in the same class as Michael Jordan. That's the equivalent of comparing Casino to Goodfellas.

Your mistake was mixing favorite with best.

Like what you like, but tread carefully when attempting to discuss best.

Shakes is right, you put Casino over Goodfellas and you're going to get nothing but the collective side eye.

this is key when ranking or making lists. even as i'm completing my "supernatural top 15" i'm making it clear that i'm talking about favorite/most impactful (to me) episodes, not what i'm dictating as the *best*.

also, if you haven't seen the scope of the filmography, you also have to digress as well.

I don't even like Casino all that much.

That's kind of how I feel about Casino...some great individual scenes (love the one where they bust the blackjack cheaters).

Have you seen the Bert and Ernie casino parody? With the dialogue of when Pesci and Deniro meet in the desert? It’s hilarious if you haven’t lol.

I love the scene in the Kansas City grocery store. Scorcese's mom is so likable on screen in every movie he puts her in. She gets the character.

Goodfellas is the closest thing I have ever seen to a perfect movie. I don't think I would change a single shot of that film. Also, I don't know how old Bills is, but I think there might be an age disconnect concerning Scorsese's older films. I wasn't alive when Taxi Driver was released and was barely alive when Raging Bull was released and those movies don't do anything for me. When I saw them in the late 90's and early 00's, they weren't as original as they would have been in the 70's and 80's. As far as Wolf of Wall Street goes, that qualude/choking/cocaine scene is one of the craziest things I have ever seen in a movie.

Goodfellas doesn't have shit on either of the first two godfather movies.

Godfather was good for it's time but anyone born after say 1995 finds it boring.

Goodfellas is like the Godfather on Crack.

No disrespect to Godfather I and II, but I'll take Goodfellas over both of them.

I personally have Goodfellas as my personal best and favorite movie of all time. Godfather I and II are pretty high on that list as well though so we're splitting hairs.

I view GF as being the view of the mob from the C Suite. Goodfellas is the view of the mob from the hourly wage employee level. Different viewpoints. When I say what I said about GF vs Goodfellas that's no disrespect toward Goodfellas. It just means GF is more epic in my view than Goodfellas. And I mean epic in terms of a theatrical production, with its storylines, plot, acting, character development, etc.

The Godfather not only shaped the way they create mob movies, it shaped the way the real life mobsters and wannabes acted afterwards.

Bosses weren't called Dons before Puzzo.

The only thing I'll agree with is that Goodfellas deals with mid level mobsters whereas Godfather deals with the mobsters at the top of the food chain. I don't agree that Godfather is more "epic" than Goodfellas in any of those sub categories you listed. One thing you have to take into consideration is that Goodfellas is one movie whereas Godfather had 2 very long run time movies to accomplish all those things you mention.
