can you separate them or do you consider them to be one movie?

I prefer II cause it has De Niro.

i liked 2 better. the whole story of the old country to the new country was intriguing. they were really 2 different movies w/ similar characters. DeNiro was great as well.

btw- DeNiro rehearsed for the role of Sonny in GF1. Here is the rehearsal clip - you twats can thank me later.

I do separate them, but it’s difficult to distinguish which is better.

I always say that my favorite one is whichever one I’m watching. But they compliment each other perfectly, obviously.

1 is just perfect because every scene is so well done. Every scene is a master class in acting and direction. 2 is great because the split stories are done so well. Deniro is tremendous throughout.

"Godfather II" is one of the few sequels that builds an even deeper narrative than its predecessor.

as far as godfather vs. goodfellas, it's an unfair comparison since they are completely different takes. godfather is a mob movie, goodfellas is more of a crime movie. godfather isn't necessarily critical of the mob lifestyle.

I almost don't consider The Godfather saga to be a crime story. It's basically a tragedy that just happens to be set in the mob milieu. You can take it out of the mob context and insert it in some other context, and it would still more or less work. Goodfellas, on the other hand, is attempting to paint a realistic portrait of actual organized crime. If you took it out of the organized crime context, it would fall apart completely.

I’m more Casino than Goodfellas, but I will concede those.

Taxi Driver? Fine that works.

I’ve never seen Raging Bull.

This movie is better than Gangs of New York.

It’s just as good or maybe a little better than the Departed. Even tho I absolutely love the Departed.

Someone who ranks MS films, but hasn't even seen Raging Bull is the equivalent of a 14 year old telling you that LBJ is better than MJ.

Also, anyone who ranks Casino over Goodfellas is immediately disqualified from ever giving an opinion again related to movies.

Wow pretty harsh.

Case of the Mondays?

Yeah, harsh.
But not wrong

I'm partial to The Godfather: The Animated Series to be honest.

I get you but it'd be hard to duplicate the formation of Vito as the ultimate antihero without that same backstory.

it was tough when phil hartman died, but billy west did a decent job of voicing don parmesan so it could continue.
