It's complete b.s. that the local governments are not giving people breaks on their property taxes during these COVID months/years. They should be cut in half.

Municipal governments are so bloated. They pay enormous amounts of money just to swap street lights with candescent bulbs to the LED bulbs, like hundreds of thousands of dollars. WTF for? I hate the LED bulbs anyway on the street lights. What about what they pay for new police cars all the time? Completely ridiculous.

If people are forced to cut their budgets, then so should the local governments, too, right now.

Maybe this thread should be moved. Doesn't seem right in the R.I.P. section, though I understand the joke about it. Maybe put it in a finance section? There seems to be a lot of interest in the topic of markets and economics.

Bumping this, because of the suggestion at the bottom.

The majority of your property taxes go to the school district, correct? Of course most schools are doing remote learning right now.

i agree, though i do believe there will be an eventual stimulus package. even so, i believe that's already baked in the 28,000+ cake. i'm thinking the vaccine and the eventual stimulus are both baked in. could be a pullback after election, regardless of winner. i believe the market wants to sell, looking for any excuse to sell-off a bit.

More intervention today, because the S&P 500 had broken below the trendline yesterday.

Sheesh. What a bunch of crooks! But that stimulus is comin.

Then what?

We’ll see what happens when they don’t agree on stimulus later on today.

The tape is getting sold today, but this could be the bottom the Dow down 600. S&P off 1.75%.

Technically, it's pretty ugly.

There's a flight into bonds with the 10 yr. down 4.5 bp to below 0.80%, which on the flip side, supports stocks.

Where are you going to put your money? Savings or bonds that have little or no yield or stocks?

Over the last month, stocks are cheap today. I don't think the market should be so spooked by SAP missing on earnings in Germany. That's not the end of the world.

Now they're talking about a blue wave being good for the market as far as stimulus. The Democrats at least would not be deadlocked.

A blue wave wouldn’t do anything for stimulus until February.

True. But the market is always foreward looking and would begin to price in stimulus immediately, if that does happen.

So MANY factors my friend.

So much of it hinges on WHEN we get stimulus.

Give me a stimulus date.

Stimulus is a can being kicked down the road. That is a temporary measure that also has severe consequences. There will be a day, fairly soon, that people will realize that a dollar bill is just a piece of paper....FedCoin.

In a no stimulus scenario you are assuredly pushing the country into a depression.

8 million have been put in poverty since May.

How MANY more go into poverty this winter without stimulus?

The problem is that the stimulus is only a temporary solution for that just like the first one was. Unless you are going to do a stimulus payment every so often for two years you are only delaying the inevitable.

There were 47 million people living in poverty prior to May and the original stimulus only made a difference of 4 million.

It seems like this is just a backdoor way to get UBI well before it is a good idea.

That's fine. It's happening though, anyway. It's just a matter of time. The combination of COVID and ourselves put 35% out of business. Printing money only makes it worse...in the end. I can't print money, so I'm printing credit cards. That way i just swipe the $2000 bill at the grocery store and hop real quick into my getaway car.

True, Nardi.
I get the need for the stimulus but it does absolutely nothing if everything stays shut down. This shit needs to stop.

How does it not do anything when enhanced UI and stimulus checks will literally prevent people from being evicted and allow them to feed their families?

Come on Big Dub!!!

so it buys 30 days for most people, then we have the same exact problem.
Do not get me wrong, it's needed....but it does nothing to solve the root cause of the problem which is the shutdowns.

Enhanced UI can help get most people through the winter with the extensions that have been created.

Couple that with the $1000/per child and $1200 per adult stimulus checks that will help a lot of families to get through the holidays.

Unless the president can force the will of the governors I think we have to accept the potential for shutdowns are going to be a part of life until a viable vaccine is distributed.

Also, more PPP for small businesses, state & local funding, and begrudgingly I’ll say the airlines need monetary support if they aren’t willing to sell their stock like Brick suggested.

I think it will come from the courts.

You are correct DB.

Auto sales and Home sales were at record levels up until September.

I think it will come from the courts.

The precedent for relying on the courts to legislate for congresspeople who are scared to offend their constituents is annoying in itself, but what exactly do you think the courts will tell the governors?
