I think there are technically 2 episodes out there to watch right now but we've only watched the premiere. It was good, pretty bloody in the beginning, but sometimes the pacing was a little off. There seemed to be 3 or 4 commercial breaks toward the end where every last scene seemed to be the end.

chris rock is good, and so is the girl who plays ethelrida. not so much the nurse who is probably going to be the central villain. she's an english actress and is really pouring on thick the minnesota accent. also, the way her dialog is written is pretty pretentious as well.

other than that, it looks great, feels like a big budget Oscar-buzzed film.

only hope it has some substance to go with it as it goes along.

also--kinda interesting to see andrew bird acting.

I love Fargo, but I fell asleep trying to watch these first 2 eps twice now. This storyline is just not as intriguing as the previous seasons. Hopefully it picks up.

I forget. Is this Hulu, Netflix, or Amazon?
I loved the first season. Haven't seen the rest..

Digging it so far, so much better than season 3..which sucked. Always liked Rock and wanted to see him do more acting.

Fargo seasons are like sex. Even when it's bad, it's still pretty good. Seriously, with all the garbage out there on Netflix, prime, Hbo, etc, Fargo S03 held my attention just fine.

Haven’t seen Season 3 since it was on but I remember giving up halfway through. It was real bad iirc.

Season 1 and 2 were outstanding. I’ll start checking S4 out once a few more episodes are in the dvr

I think expectations maybe cloud some people's judgements. But I certainly can't deny that if you gave up on it halfway through, then your feeling that it sucked is legit.

I rewatched all three seasons before this season started, Season 3 is clearly the worst of them but I thought the last two episodes were really good, it was just a slog to get to them.

The first episode was pleasantly familiar as it followed the same beats of every first episode of the other seasons. My question to the class, when the nurse meets Ethelrida and comments on her skin tone... is she foreshadowing that Ethelrida father isn't her father? That's what I took away from it.

It wasn't True Detective season 2 bad..but it wasn't good.

Through the first 3 episodes, the pacing has definitely gotten worse. This goes in so many directions that it feels like there is no handle on the story.

There are also some over-the-top performances that are taking away from the atmosphere. Hawley’s writing has gotten weaker rather than stronger.

I’ll probably slog through this one but I thought I was gonna do that last season and I gave up after the 6th episode. So I might not.

Also...bloated run times rarely keep things compelling. These episodes can make you feel like you’ve spent a whole evening watching one episode.

It doesn't have that pseudo-supernatural Fargo feel to it. I don't find myself giving a crap about any of the characters. Okay, save one:

The only character I find myself intrigued by is the crazy, murderous Italian brother.

kirsten is in season 2.

it looks like it's taken to the 4th episode to finally click. this was the first time i didn't get bogged down with the run-time and i actually wanted to just push ahead to the next episode. i can wait a week but i'm really looking forward to what happens next now. it shouldn't have had to take over 4 hours to get to this point, but they give hawley so much time to work with...it's bound to have filler.

The undertaker's daughter going through the pantry was a great scene.

Again, they'd better not waste Gaetano. He has the potential to be Tommy in Goodfellas if they do it right. As far as I am concerned, they are in danger of simplifying and minimizing him to the point of rote boredom.

Echoes of the Sebastian Maniscalco character in Irishman as well.

Personally, I love the scenes of the 100% non-Italian-looking Schwartzmann getting his hog tickled, ridden, and otherwise serviced by the crazy loon redhead nurse. The matter-of-fact look on her face whilst she is performing her Svengali-like release-bringing duties is hilarious.

i think gaetano and orietta are going to be the two focal villains of the show so i doubt they waste that character. he's like don corleone if he were played by jack black.

schwartzmann is definitely purposely played against type here. he's a good sight gag. and he plays it well. that chair is hilarious.

I'm really enjoying where this is going but with one major concern:

In season two, the UFO was foreshadowed throughout the whole season (in some overt but more subtle ways). This season with the supernatural/ghost thing...I just hope the Irish gang leader doesn't come back from the dead to complete the curse on his son.

Wait, what is the Supernatural ghost thing?

I have watched all these episodes like right before bed, so I am kind of groggy when I consume them, so I may have missed it.

In the last episode, the guy coming out of the bathtub that they were washing the money. Also, the disfigured person that Ethelrida found at the beginning of the episode. There have been other references to it sprinkled throughout the first four episodes.

Watching over my lunch break...
Chris Rock's kid who is with the Italians, he is Mike Milligan from season two. I thought it was...interesting...that the Irish mob that got killed was the Milligan mob and seeing the only person in the Italian mob who actually cares for him is Rabbi Milligan...not that far of a stretch...right?

i credit T-Bone for bringing that to my attention through a message, he had mentioned milligan from S2. i gotta believe that's a connection. especially with this relationship rabbi's formed with the kid.

Does this show have anything to do with the movie of the same name?

No

yes it is in the same universe. In season 1, there is a very specific thing that happens that is 100% related to the movie.

It's all over the place. It's very artsy to be chaotic and then bring all the threads together in the end.

And I just kinda laugh when Chris Rock acts tough. There's a scene with his wife where he's going off on her and at the end I expect her to bust out laughing.

but it's not Marge and Son of a Gunderson's world, right?

It seems odd to have called it Fargo if you aren't forwarding the story of the popular movie of the same name

It is not the story of those characters but it does link to that story. I was skeptical but the first season is great, second season is my favorite, third season slips a little but still better than most television. This season is going somewhere and I am enjoying it but honestly, I find it is hard to say how good a season is until it is over.

The whole premise of "Fargo" (both the movie and the show) is basically the idea of ironic happenings and peculiar crime occurring in paces where you think its just tractors and snowplows. Also, how greed changes peoples' previously tame personalities into devilish self-servers is also explored. Lot of slippery slopes and rabbit hole spelunking as each season continues towards its finale.

you bring up an interesting point...if this was 6 years ago when season 1 came out.
