I just don't. I was thinking about caring. But I decided that I don't care.

It could work out good if you hire the wrong guy. Could work out bad if you hire the right guy. It's a slim margin either way. If all the players are awesome, it won't matter.

That's the way I look at it. It's fucking baseball. I really only care about the Bears coach. Football coaches mean a lot.

As long as the young guys get better for the White Sox. That's all I care about.

Hire the old man, hire the cheater, hire some first time young guy. Whatever. It doesn't matter to me.

Just hit 280 HRs and have 3 stud pitchers and a decent bullpen. That's all that matters.

Right. Plus LaRussa was a pretty great manager 10 years ago.

It's not that crazy

In the grand sweep of things it's not, but it is out of step with recent managerial hires. Plus it cuts Hahn off at the knees. LaRussa is obviously not the guy he had in mind when he made his statements after the season was over. If LaRussa gets hired, it would obviously be a Reinsdorf decision and LaRussa will have absolutely no incentive to listen to anything Hahn has to say. We've already seen conflict between a White Sox GM and a White Sox manager, and I don't think it's the healthiest way to go about things.

Bernstein: LaRussa. Is. A. Racist.

Beardown: I know Danny boy, but plenty of racists managers have won the World Series. You're a racist, too, Bernstein. And you still get to be on the radio. So shut up. You just fake it better by calling out other racists to hide the fact that you are, indeed, a racist. Just know that you don't fool me. Got it?

Bernstein:  Yeah, got it. Can you keep this fact to yourself?

Beardown: No.

Why is there a disconnect?

Hahn BUILDS the team, and LaRussa would RUN the team.

Two different jobs, two different responsibilities.

You don't have the Guy who builds the pool being a lifeguard, do you?

You also do not have your parents dictate the size and style of the pool that will be in the backyard of your house.

The person in charge of building the team also picks who runs the team. At least everywhere else.

If the parents (Jerry R.) own the house, they sure do.

Hahn is just an at-will tenant.

Give me a list of owners who pick the manager instead of the GM they hire.

Not in Milwaukee, when Attanasio hired David Stearns for GM, a caveat was that Counsell would remain on as Manager.

Pitching coach is probably going to be the more important hire for impacting the future success of this group.

You can roll that lineup out there every day now for the next five years. Every position is set except for RF. Your next biggest everyday lineup decision is whether Abreu or Vaughn plays first that day

Historically, you would be right, but with all these managers who have come down from the front office, or just seem like they're front office errand boys, I don't think that's the case anymore. I suspect that Hahn wants the next manager to listen to him when he makes suggestions about lineups, pitching decisions, defensive shifts, etc. The odds of LaRussa listening to Hahn on these topics is extremely low.

The odds of Reinsdorf caring are even lower.

If Hahn wants to walk, we'll just get Theo.
