With 9.195 million total viewers, Game 1 of the 2020 World Series is officially the least-watched World Series game of all time. The Rays vs. Dodgers’ Tuesday opener on Fox drew a 2.4 rating among adults 18-49, according to final Nielsen numbers.

I was one of the 9.195, but didn't last long. Smoltz's seemingly endless praise and adoration of Kershaw made me ill.

Ratings to me, as a fan, are irrelevant. The game will survive. If salaries come down, and the economics of the game undergo radical changes it’s probably in sports best interest. Hell, I’m all for teams getting contracted. If labor strife occcurs and it takes years to get shit back on track that’s fine by me.

For comparison, Buck just said 76 million people watched Game 6 of the 1975 World Series.

That's because there was literally only 2 other things to watch on TV.

It's going to be a pretty good series.

There was a lot of BLM bullshit now that you mention it.

I've been watching this Series just out of reflex and am having a real hard time getting into it. I didn't mind the lack of a home crowd all year, but I think I'm starting to feel it.

There's absolutely no buzz about any of the sports this year except football. Without fans it's hard to get into the games. Even the Bears games are dull without screaming fans. Dr. Fauci ruined sports!

I've only watched like 2 innings of the entire series thus far. If I am changing channels and catch it i may tune in but tune out real fast.

Im a big baseball fan as you all know and always make time out of my day to watch every game of the world series every year.

not this year. it's just not interesting.

This is probably going to be the least memorable world series second only to 2005.

I caught that, and also caught some hesitation in his voice, maybe stopping himself from comparing that number to the viewership of this series.

Same thing happened to horse racing. When will these horses wake up and realize that I don't care about their politics?

Watched a little on my phone. Enlarge fullscreen and BLM on the back of the pitchers mound is gone from the center field camera view.

I haven't had a class of kids in more than a decade who had any interest in baseball. Really sports in general. These kids watch NBA youtube highlights all the time but do not watch the games.

Obviously there needs to be more bat flips , posing, and lack of hustle. It’s what the kids want to see .

I missed Game 1 because I wasn't feeling well and Game 2 because I was working. I expect to watch games 3-5.

It would be a lot easier if MLB would let us watch the World Series on the app which I pay for, and just announced that viewership as well.

People have been predicting the demise of baseball for at least 30 years.

As I've said about the other sports, these seasons are illegitimate. Serious fans understand but tolerate it. Non serious fans aren't bothering.

Even with college football, the games seem like scrimmages.

NFL is about as close to legit as possible.

It certainly doesn't help to bring partisan politics into sports. And MLB isn't featuring one of the most famous athletes in the world playing for the premier franchise going up against another major market franchise in its championship.

The Tampa Bay Rays are likely the worse draw of any MLB team. And baseball has problems considering the average age of the fan. But to deny that the NBA isn't alienating people by being over the top political is wishful delusional thinking.

The seasons aren’t illegitimate. They did the best with what they had. Are the kids’ school year illegitimate because they are learning from home? Are people working from home not going to accumulate a year of service time?

It is what it is.

You come across silly posing as the arbiter of “what counts.” You’re entitled your your opinion but no need to pass it off as indisputable fact.
