I'd settle for more balls in play. That would seem exciting.
Yes but probably wouldn't change the declining fan base
Nothing will
As far as baseball goes, they have to make changes to get away from full "three true outcomes" baseball. At a intellectual level, a perfectly placed shift is a thing of beauty when somebody hits a line drive at 110 mph exit velocity right at the 3B playing in short right field. But I'd rather see the fences moved back, the grass cut shorter, and an emphasis on relying more on balls in play, consistently hitting doubles with a higher BA, and hitting to all fields. I just think that is a more enjoyable game that is also more difficult to consistently play in an expansion era (and 32 teams is coming).
I’m all for any changes that would make the game better.
I think moving the fences back could potentially tack on an extra 15 minutes to the average game which would move us in the opposite direction of where we’re trying to go.
Raise the mound? I don’t know. But something needs to change.
I think a rule where you have to have 2 infielders on either side of second base, effectively banning the shift, would be helpful for the more balls in play issue
The speed of the game is negatively impacted by 2 things:
1. Commercial / advertising breaks
2. Pitching changes
Any other factor / discussion is just noise. If they need to evolve the game, that's fine with m, but in terms of speeding up the dead time.....those are the only areas where you could truly make an impact.
I'm fine with the game, but sometimes life interferes with watching baseball. Dodgers v. Rays does nothing for me. We'd watch it if there was nothing else on, but just been busy with life and haven't cared. We did watch the Cubs / Sox during whatever they salvaged for the regular season.
SJW hasn't alienated me from watching, but like the other sports....I find it self-serving, forced, and not sincere. I'm more bothered by the empty seats and fake crowd noises...but that's just me.
