Drove out to the middle of nowhere tonight, I can't see it. I think it's too low on the horizon. Hopefully I catch a glimpse in a couple weeks when it's more visible at night rather than early morning.

Not sure on angles and such back home as I am also in the middle of nowhere except 500 miles north, but around 11:30 draw a line straight down from the middle of the pan on the Big Dipper and it should be there.

Yeah I know it's generally under the BD, and I use the "night sky" app to try and help. I just haven't seen it so far. Not giving up, just no success. I'm not quite ready to do the 3am thing for this just yet

Just so different from the Hale-Bopp back in the mid 90's.....it was just "there", you couldn't not see it.

It’s a lot harder to see than Hale bopp but at 10 it is well above horizon out here. The averted vision is the key.

Crystal clear skies out here tonight. Not as easy to see as last weekend but still viewable. Look in the binoculars and it was amazing.

Drive out an hour or so on I-80. We drove just past Starved Rock, but you don't need to go that far. Looks cool with good binoculars.

You can see it with the naked eye, as the Inebriated Rodent said, with averted vision.

I tried to find it last night, but I think there is too much light pollution near my house for me to see it.

Its really not much of a nakee eye object anymore. Need binoculars or a telescope to get a good view.

why is humanity not more amazed that we landed a vehicle on a small rock it took two years to get to?

Tell me about it right? This should have been the leading news story for the seven days in advance of landing, and should have been all we heard about the day it landed.

There were too many other "news" stories to report on those days.

Shouldn't we be more focused on attempting to change it's course? I'm pretty sure we need the practice.

They banged something into it, which should effect it on some micro level. I saw a woman was doing the driving on the craft. She probably pushed it right into the earth's path.

nasa followed an asteroid around the galaxy with a space vehicle and then bounced a probe off the surface to collect space debris which will then be brought back to earth

yes

orbited it from about 1 mile for a while, then bumped it to disturb the surface for data collection and on its way home with samples

here is what it looked like from orbit

Anyone going to see that Christmas* star? I saw the comet and the last meteor shower, so I am hoping to continue my hot streak. Supposed to be a good view of Jupiter and Saturn, too.

*Yes, there's a board movement afoot to re-christen this as the Solstice or Hanukkah or Kwanzaa star. Well, one board member, anyway....whose initials are DS or IR.

It should be pretty cool. The skies have been good to people for a few years now, what with the eclipse, the shooting star shows, that one green-ish star a few years ago, Mars being close, and that cool comet. We went out in your direction to see the comet, but we'll probably just drive down 57 past Kankakee for this one. Pray for clear skies.

I'm going to drive out into the country about a half hour after sunset to take a look. Hopefully the scattered clouds go away.

Jupiter and Saturn have been in the southern sky all year. Mars is in western sky. At any given moment at night, you can see from west to south, Mars, the Moon, Saturn, and Jupiter.

Eyes Up Guardians.

The eclipse was one of the greatest things I've ever seen. It's really no wonder primitive people freaked the fuck out.

Pretty cool. You'll be able to see it tomorrow. Had to drive way down 57 to escape the cloud cover to see it.

I thought the planets would just sort of join together, but they didn't really do that. However, with good binoculars, you could sorta--sorta--see Saturn's rings. Makes me want to get an even better pair of binoculars...but I think the next upgrade is a few hundred dollars.

Some local farmer set his dawgs on us. Or it appeared so. We got back into the car and drove a mile away.

I saw Saturn's rings up in Door County through a sweet telescope that Darkside has.

Last night? Darko, not sure what name you are under now, but I'll be up there tonight. Thanks for accepting my self-invite.

Looks like Doug chills with everybody on this board. I probably grew up five minutes away from him.

That's cool. My dad had a decent telescope and I saw the rings maybe 12 years ago or so. Caught a glimpse of them for maybe 15 seconds. I turned around and bumped the telescope and couldn't find it again.
