Having said that, I would go back to Burlington/Waterbury in a heartbeat. I love it out there. Had plans to visit this fall but stupid covid.

Is there a distinct difference in these under-attenuated hazy bois? I enjoy them well enough but there does not appear to be any real difference in flavor profile.

The flavor profiles for NE IPAs are generally the same, but there's quite a variation in the way NE IPAs produced by different breweries actually taste.

For instance, the three top breweries in New England--Hill Farmstead, Treehouse, and Trilliium--may use the same/similar ingredients, but their beers taste vastly different.

Do you disagree?

Regarding your earlier question, I haven't had a ton of Hop Butcher beer recently, but I like them a lot. I think Foam's signature beers--Pavement, Galaxie 500, Experimental Jet Set, etc--are as good or better than what I've tried from HB. But I am not in great position to make a definitive judgment about the two relative to one another.

Keep in mind, though, that I think Foam is probably only the third best brewery in Vermont. For me, Hill Farmstead maintains a wide lead over everyone else, and then River Roost holds down second place. After that, Foam, Burlington Beer Company, Frost and Green Empire are all doing some really interesting things.

I haven't tried them so I can't speak on it. To me there seems to be no real difference between the juice bombs put out by Phase Three, Riverlands, and Hop Butcher. I like them but I doubt I could single them out in a blind taste test.

The less said about milkshake IPAs and fruited sours the better.

I was just using the breweries I mentioned as an example. I think a lot of the IPAs Foam puts out are kind of similar to one another. Same thing with Burlington Beer Company. But you can immediately tell the difference between a Foam IPA and a BBC IPA. You can throw Other Half in this category, too. They are one of my favorite breweries in the U.S. right now, but a fair number of their beers taste the same. Few breweries, however, can make beer that tastes as good--or as distinctive--as Other Half.

Hacker Pschorr Oktoberfest. Although I hate the 11.2 fl. oz. bottle-size, this is probably my favorite Oktoberfest beer.

5.8% alc by volume, but you don't even taste the alcohol, unlike Great Lakes Octoberfest, which you do. Very drinkable with amazing flavor.

The Brewery in Germany has been in existence since 1417. The only German beer I like better is Alpirsbacher, which you can get only in Germany in the Black Forest area.

10 out of 10.

Revolution makes a good Oktoberfest. Dovetail too.

In fact, Dovetail may be one of the most slept on breweries in Chicago.

I always get Oktoberfest brews this time of year. Revolution's is pretty good. Great Lakes is also good.
HofbrauHaus Oktoberfest is still the Gold Standard for me.
Ayinger is really really good.
Didn't see Spaten Oktoberfest anywhere this year, but I used to like that one.

I tried one from Left Hand brewery....tasted nothing like an Oktoberfest and thought it was terrible.

Revolution, Sam Adams, and Leinenkugel are the three I've had so far.

Just tried Every Day Hero from Revolution. It's Anti-Hero but 4.3%. good stuff.

I used to love Oktoberfest brews, but IPAs have ruined me for everything else. It's embarrassing. Maybe I'll make a concerted effort to drink some stouts when the cold weather takes hold.

Agreed. Some of these lagers almost taste skunky to me.

I had some Goose Island Oktoberfest, which I was not a big fan of. Leinie's is pretty good. Saturday I had a growler of the Oktoberfest from One Allegance where my buddy works, and that was pretty good. Packed a little more punch than most others at 6.4% as well.

It's definitely very tasty! It's also pretty easy to find now that it is distributed in small quantities across most of the Northeast.

Didn’t realize it was available outside of VT. My dad bought a bunch At a Waterbury liquor store.

what is a good alternative to blue moon? I had Hoegarden some years ago and while it was good, had way too much of a european taste. That's why I like Blue Moon Coors, it takes that same formula but 'americanizes' it for my taste.

I know it’s borderline macro but leinies has easily the most drinkable Oktoberfest.

Beer Cellar? Good spot, right across the street from Prohibition Pig. Did your dad also hit the Blackback while he was in town? I was there last weekend. They're trying to get back to normal, but it's not the same with all the weird plastic strips separating the bar staff from the customers. Still a great tap list, though.

So there is a place I found near me called Whole Foods and they had the Blue Moon Beer.

I went out tonight to get more but they ran out. They had Hoegaarden which is the European original but I saw another beer besides it which was more expensive called Weihenstephaner hefe weissbier.

It looked like the same type of white beer but it's so much smoother. I really like it. It does not have that bite blue moon or Hoegaarden has.

Anyone here have this before? I looked on the internet and it says it's a wheat beer where blue boom is a white beer.

JFC, now this waste of carbon is invading the beer thread?

Has anyone been to Beer on the Wall? Two locations in Park Ridge and Arlington Heights. I visited the latter today. They sell singles of everything. Got a Saint Errant, Noon Whistle, Foreign Exchange and New Image. All double IPAs. Prices are a tad higher than buying the four pack, but then you’re not stuck with three beers you don’t like.

Have you ever tried anything by Four Quarters? I've known about them for a few years, but only tried some of their beer recently.

I was very impressed. Based upon my limited sampling, I'd say they are a little better than Foam in the NE IPA category. We'll see if this opinion holds up as I work my way through their offerings.
