No

yes it is in the same universe. In season 1, there is a very specific thing that happens that is 100% related to the movie.

You're referencing the dough and ice scraper?

this season is really shaping up to be a really good one. although, some of these near-miss-death scenarios (gaetano, and the fugitive pie eater) are pretty hard to believe...both would be respectively dead from their experiences.

it has gotten a lot more entertaining as of late, with things coming together more now.

Nah, Orietta put Ipecac Syrup in that pie, not poison. That just is an emetic (induces vomiting). We had it in our cabinet growing up.

With Gaetano, you are spot-on - that'd be one heck of a shot to place it there just to get a kindly KO.

I think she was being more of a simple trouble-maker with that one.

Reasoning: There were poisons plenty stronger in her pantry that she could have employed if she wished for the ingestion of the pie to be a terminal event for its sampler. She was seeking nothing more than tremendous discomfort in my opinion.

I think it went to show that she is tremendously disturbed and simply cannot avoid meddling in mischief. It is a compulsion.

This season was kind of sputtering along and I wasn't sure where it was going but the last two episodes have really gotten the ball rolling. Some really good acting and dialogue by some of the characters. Looks like this thing has 11 episodes according to Wikipedia so there is a long way to go yet.

i credit T-Bone for bringing that to my attention through a message, he had mentioned milligan from S2. i gotta believe that's a connection. especially with this relationship rabbi's formed with the kid.

Yeah when I found out the premise of this season I wondered if they would somehow tie Mike Milligan into it. He has been one of my favorite characters of the series. His name isn't Mike and he isn't a Milligan of course, so my guess is that he takes on the rabbi's name by the end and could be one of the last people standing here. It's a good catch Psycory and my guess is that what we are guessing will come to fruition, although probably in a strange way we hadn't anticipated.

I think Milligan’s path is pretty obvious -he winds up choosing (as Rabbi offers when he saves him) to rejoin his own family. Eventually (in the 70’s) Milligan winds up getting sent you to Fargo to take back the territory the Gehrhardts stole from Cannons ties up there (the guys Cannon sells the guns to in exchange for their allegiance). After all that, Milligan returns successful (as we know from season 2) and joins the family business (which at that point I’m assuming has gone corporate in connection to what Cannon and Doctor Senator we’re trying to do with the Credit Card stuff).

I also think at some point we’ll be introduced to the twin hit men Milligan pals around with during season 2. I’m assuming it’s the 2 kids from the beginning of the season that ‘accidentally’ shot the elder Italian at the cross walk. We’ll see tho.

As for the ‘Mike Milligan’ name -I think he just chooses to use that as his alias in season 2 when sent up to Fargo to take care of things, as a sort of nod to Rabbi who helped him out. The Gehrhardts would probably know the Cannon name due to the rivalry, so it would make sense for him to use an alias going into rival territory.

That’s a good assessment—so the Gehrhardts wouldn’t recognize the Milligan name?

Nope. I think Satchel will be the last man standing this season and Joe Bulo will take him.

He will then choose the name Mike Milligan as an homage to Rabbi, who will probably bite the dust defending him.

I’d figure Bulo will show up at some point -but keep in mind Milligan’s fate at the end of season 2. He’s basically given a desk job in what looks like a corporate environment, and I don’t think the credit card stuff shown earlier this season was for no reason. The only one left alive that knows of it is Cannon, so I think there’s an alliance at some point that smooths things out. Would be my guess anyway

1 hole in my theory however is Milligan getting worried about being bumped off during season 2, I can’t figure that part out if it’s clearly known by KC that he’s Cannons son, and Cannon survives. So it’s possible Milligan disappears for awhile after the war and low key joins them later on under the Milligan name and works his way up the food chain.

Bulo already showed up in Ep 4.

Faddas brought him in from NY.

He is the corporate-like thinker. It is well-established in S2.

I get all that.. my point is I think something happens to combine the two. This would be where the Credit Card stuff comes in. Unless Cannon shares it in a future episode with someone who relays the idea back.. I’m wondering how they’re going to connect the two

I’m also wondering why Milligan would be fearful of KC knocking him off in season 2 if he’s established in the family and well known.. makes me think he may not be

He's fearful because hes just an orphan picked up by Bulo as a project. He means nothing to everyone else, which is why he is a henchman and nothing more.

Possibly. Wonder if we’ll get an ‘act of cruelty, and an act of kindness’ moment with Milligan and Bulo at some point then.

this past episode was kind of filler. in fact, the whole subplot of the US marshal vs. the 2 jailbirds is pretty uninteresting, except for olyphant's amusingly eccentric performance.

still enjoying this season a lot more than 3, but seasons 1 & 2 definitely had better execution. this one still has pacing issues.

On the "most interesting" meter, HBO's The Undoing is better. Even despite Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant being in it.

I dug the characters a lot in season 3 as well as the casting.. but the story wasn’t all that great imo.. where as this season I think the casting and characters aren’t all that great but the story (mainly the two rival mobs part) would be so much better off if those other things were in place.

Chris Rock is not a good dramatic actor. I feel like I’m watching him trying to work out stand-up dialogue every time he raises his voice and tries to be a hard ass or get all serious.

Calamida, Deafy, and Rabbi are this shows best characters and the ones I like seeing on screen the most. The only time Jack Houston’s detective is remotely interesting is when he’s interacting with Olyphant.. and the Nurse (while her acting is fine) just seems like a shoe horned character.

All that said, I don’t hate the show, but I do think it could’ve been better up til this point

Saw Olyphant on Mandalorian, too, and I gotta admit, I'm actually kinda glad he plays every role as Raylon Givens! 8)

Agreed 100%.

Its actually "cringy", as the young people say.

for me, they've already killed off my favorite character (dr. senator). i've liked that actor going back to "gremlins".

buckley's performance is distracting to me. she's an english actress contorting her face in order to get that minnesota nice going and it doesn't work for me. she's getting a lot of accolades but for me it's weak--kinda like how you feel about rock's performance.

He can't help but crack smiles all the time when he is dramatically acting.

Happens in like every scene.

He can't help it - he probably has Jimmy Fallon-Horatio Sanz Disease.

Vaughn was pretty good in the prison movie.

Besides that, you leave him in that Swingers/Old School Wheelhouse and he is just fine.

there are 3 episodes left, but it feels like there should only be 1 or 2. so of course, this upcoming episode looks like the padding. black & white, and wacked out. a tornado?

there are great moments in this season that are really being squandered sometimes by hawley's insistence on being pseudo-intellectual and pretentious as hell.

Gaetano is clearly the most interesting character.

Seeing him embrace his "snake" brother after finding out that said brother betrayed him was an awesome and gripping scene.

I feel as if Orietta will have the last word as it pertains to at least one major character this season, most likely Josto or Gaetano (or both - I see a formula of physically-strong character being defeated by a physically-weak character coming), however, I think we can all foresee that Ethelrida will be granted the death blow on good 'ole Ms. Mayflower somehow.

Curious that she spoke of being forced to drink her likely psycho mother's "special juice" as a child. Shows that she either was messed-up, or that she was given some drug that messed her up in the head.

I also love Josto's mocking 'blowjob' gestures when he is speaking to his future "father-in-law". Awesome.

This last black and white episode was just alright with me. It was a really long episode that didn't really move the story along that far. Yes, we find out what happens to a handful of main characters but I just think they could have wrapped that all up in half the time. I am sure there is some kind of deeper meaning wrapped up in the tornado and all that but there is still a lot of loose ends to tie up and only 2 episodes to do it in.

I think the biggest part of it is if the wheezing Papa Milligan was real or just an apparition the child saw.

Why wouldn't Rabbi notice that dude?

Whole thing could be a dream sequence, a la Dorothy in 'The Wizard of Oz'.

Lastly, I think we had proof much earlier that Satchel is Mike Milligan.

Look here how MM recites 'The Jabberwocky", which is akin to one of the books Rabbi was reading with him:

It's him.
