103.9 was one of the presets in the old Chevy celebrity that was rarely used. Don’t remember it being the fox back in early 90’s.

Not that old. The Fox was its last format before it went evangelical a year or so ago. They had Eddie Volkman and his frosted tips doing mornings. Just bog-standard rawk, wouldn't even go deep into Physical Graffiti like the Loop used to. I think it was a casualty of various mergers and acquisitions that went bad.

Well, I am that old apparently. Being a western burb kid growing up it was a station that came in and generally that station didn’t pick up air traffic control like WCKG. Usually in that car I was grateful when the radio worked or check engine soon wasn’t on. Both things happening? A cause of celebration.

103.9 was The Wabbit ... I recall it being vaguely XRT-Lite.

I found this station the other night. They play a good mix of rock music. The DJ's are a bit cheesy, but that's ok. Not enough new rock music though. Even Q101 has to rely on 90's music because the rock scene is so dead.

There's always new indie rock, but it's not always good. We know about XRT scooping up seven or eight new songs and playing them to death*, but CHIRP can be even worse, because they'll play noisy mediocre indie songs that don't even have a hook. As for new rawk, well, you can't play that, either, because WIIL Rock does that, and it's worse than the other two combined.

*Now instead of white singer-songwriter guys who sound the same, it's black neo-soul guys who sound the same: I can't tell my Marcus King from my Devon Gilfillian, but at least they're not Vance Joy. Play Lianne La Havas if you're gonna go in that direction, though, she's really cool.
