Here in the CBus metro area, and frankly all of Ohio, I have yet to find a good pizza place. Haven’t visited them all, especially the past 9 months, but Ohio does not know good pizza. They seem to love pepperoni - which isn’t a bad thing, but the big chain, Donato’s, is trash of the lowest order - their specialty is fully covering their thin-crust pizza with pepperoni to the point of that is all you see.

A lot of the chains/indies in Ohio have also apparently inherited a really bad habit from fucking St. Louis: using provolone (or “proval” ) instead of mozzarella. Provolone, or any combination with it, should never come within a continent of any pizza.

Many of these places also grind up their meat toppings and sprinkle it on to the point of not being able to taste them. Oh, and they like to cut their thin crust into strips as well.

The Ohio indies that DO come close always miss big time in one aspect - either the toppings, crust, or sauce are the one thing that ruins the rest of the pizza depending where you go, plus their prices are ridiculous.

My main trash go-to from the list would be Marco’s, but we don’t have one within 15 minutes, so even though I voted for Marco’s, and Jet’s would be my runner-up, the next best we have is Dominos - sad, I know, but frankly they are the best bang-for-buck within 10 miles of here, plus their stuffed cheesy bread is pretty damn fantastic, and the local store is about a two-minute drive.

There was another one that was in a similar vein to Mod, but for the life of me I can't remember the name of it. There was one on the Glenview/Northbrook border off the tollway at Willow that I ate at a couple of times...it wasn't bad, but I guess it was super mismanaged because they shut down in the middle of the night.

I lived in Indianapolis for 3 years and it took almost that long to find a decent place. All the mom & pop places were bad, nothing like a Chicago neighborhood joint. Found some sports bar that was like a 15 minute drive.
