They won't. Not until next year.

Teddy and George don't want to deal with hiring new fucking people during COVID times. They just don't. They don't like doing this shit in good times. Because neither of them know how to do it. And they don't want to eat the 2 years on Nagy's contract. Nor the years on Pace's contract. I think he actually has 3 or 4 years left. Cuz they extended him after he fired Fox.

It won't happen. Just want all of you to realize it. I know how the McCaskey's think. They won't listen to their mom. They'll settle Virginia down when she yells at her boys.

I’m just wondering if this needed to be it’s own thread...

It didn’t.

Well, don't think too hard about it. It will be fine. You'll survive.

Pace has one year left. It is pretty standard to either extend or fire a GM with one year left.

Would you want a lame duck running a draft that would impact your organization for at least the next five years?

I say Pace is gone. Nagy stays

not letting the new GM hire a coach would be something a bad organization would do

If your gonna do it you have to start with fresh GM/HC/Team President. Someone has to come in and completely rebuild this offense from the ground up, the roster is filled with hand picked Nagy guys and there is no way he is going to be objective enough to stand by and watch his roster blown up.

I could see Pace staying because the defense is well-regarded and those are his guys. He stays with a mandate to revamp the offense by September 2021.

No way George has the guts to fire Nagy midseason. If they make a move it will be after the season and after they have hired another search firm to find the next Phil Emery.

I think Pace is safe and Nagy is gone. The GB game will determine Nagy's fate.

Pace is the problem, but with limited cash I don't see either canned until after next year. McCaskeys' gotta leech. I mean, eat.

I know.

It's bad.

I still think both Nagy and Pace will be back next year.

Why?

Because I don't think George and Teddy want to search for new people in this COVID time.

I absolutely think it's a factor. They hate doing this shit in normal times. Cuz neither of them know how to do it. They're NFL lifers, but neither of them know about the NFL or the environment. They don't network like other owners or know the pulse of the NFL.

They just cash checks and cheer for the Bears like any of us.

I don’t see how you can fire Nagy yet keep Pace.

Pace has failed at QB selection, choosing head coaches, and overall roster construction.

He can’t be retained

It isn't that hard. You call Tony Dungy and say: "We will give you 15% of the team if you take over as Team President and win us a Super Bowl within 7 years. Plus a salary. You have 100% control as long as we have some cash flow because we can't sell the team for tax reasons, and we need some cash each year. "

I'm not saying what should happen. I'm saying what will happen.

I'm telling you what George and Teddy are thinking. What they will do. Cuz I have a good feel for those two.

Now, if the old lady, Virginia, orders it, that's different. I have a feeling she won't this time. She'll leave it up to them.

Have those things ever worked though? Washington tried it with Gibbs or whomever and nothing happened. It seems you only get it right once you get it right at QB. Then things seem to fall into place.

Fuck yes man. I am with you. Please let them hire Tony Dungy to clean up this mess as a GM, which iirc, he’s never done before. Perfect Bear move.

Dungy should have won more with Manning, the best of his generation.

Probably yes but you have always underestimated Brady’s greatness due to the cheating stuff

You need real football people at the top. It is not a guarantee, but it is a minimum requirement. Bill Walsh is not coming back from the dead.

They need someone at the top who understands talent and how to draft, and which positions need free agent signings.

If you don't like Dungy, pick someone else with a strong background.

I don't necessarily disagree but I think it again comes down to QB, especially in the 2010s/2020s. I don't think the best brains in football are running the KC operation - they were middling at best for a long time - but then they luck into Mahomes and now all of a sudden they're viewed as some sort of football intellectual mecca. Same with San Diego or even Indy under Luck. You get it right on QB and all of a sudden even the meals you pick for lunch seem healthier and better than what everyone else orders. Angelo would still be here imo if he struck gold with Cutler or Grossman.

Tbf KC had Alex Smith as a 13 win QB. Mahomes didn’t go to the Bears or Bengals or Jaguars.

Nagy also had little interaction with Mahomes as the focus was on Alex Smith. Mike Kafka was given the job of Mahome's personal coach that first season.

By that logic you should always draft a QB in the first round and play the odds that you eventually find your top 5 QB. Maybe not Mahomes, but say Russell Wilson.

If you find two in a row, you have a great trade chip.

Would hiring Kafka really be weirder than hiring Trestman? Let’s do it

Does it happen any other way? Let's run through some of the top QBs of recent times:

Manning
Mahomes
Brady
Brees
Rodgers
Ben
Rivers
Wilson

No one but Manning was a consensus no 1, best overall pick at QB. Three weren't even drafted in the first round. I don't think it took skill for KC to grab Mahomes at 10 or 12, or for GB to grab Rodgers at 25 or wherever, and for Seattle to get Wilson with a mid round pick. They just got lucky no teams took them before it was their turn to pick.

You’re halfway there but it’s not just “get a QB”. The organizations that get great QBs generally tend to develop and coach them better. Pitt, Indy, KC, GB, SF, etc. teams like the Jets and Browns and Bears will always have terrible QBs. Death and taxes my friend.

The Bears ownership ate Mike Glennon's contract. Nagy's contract is nothing compared to that fiasco.

If you're going to offer Dungy, then you might as well offer Aikman to be your team President.
