Rodon? Absolutely. 3rd overall pick.
was it the White Sox or the Cubs who passed on trading for Verlander? I forget. Please remind me.

Schwarber had a .971 OPS in the Series. How many wins for Rodon in the World Series?

He sounds pretty good. Why did the Cubs release him?

Stupid move. Keeping him costs the Cubs $9M. He'll probably sign for $7-9M. They're going to have to sign somebody for about that range for that sort of production.

Dumb move.

Agreed, you've stuck with him this long. Might as well give it another season with the DH coming

The NL had the DH this year and it didn’t help him.

It's not about helping him. It's a soot where his skill set fits better, that's all.

He was the best offensive player in the league in the 2nd half of 2019. There is some value there.

if there was value there, they could have traded him and his rights

It's just funny that Cubs fans can say that Schwarber wasn't good and it's no big deal. Sox fans say that Schwarber isn't that good and it's "Well, he was good for small stretches at times!".

How was that $8-9 million arbitration number calculated? Are they looking back more than one year? I can't imagine that a negative WAR player would be awarded that much.

Not at all. Schwarber was not that good last year. Does not change the fact that they don't get to or win the WS without him.

Frank, who's the bigger BUST (your Sox fan post in another Cubs thread). Schwarber or Rodon?

Cubs fans will now see how much it sucks to try to squeeze the last bits of production from aging talents at the DH position for inflated prices.

I think I would have kept him even at that number.

You can't offer a reduction of more than something like 5% of the previous years salary, which puts teams in pretty bad positions and usually keeps the offers close in terms of baseball money.

Enjoy an Edwin Encarnacion, Adam Dunn, Adam LaRoche type of player next year

Rodon has NOTHING to do with Babe getting his Walking Papers, but that doesn't stop Cubs fans from bringing him up in the thread. The inferiority complex is strong.

Frank the fact is like many players Babe become a Cub fan legend. There is a long line of them that were not as good as the love. It is okay they treat their players that way.

All that happened with Babe and actually Rodon is that a grown up pro franchise decided they should not pay money either for the past nor hoping for the future when there is a low percentage on return.

Yup. He's their Geoff Blum. Nothing wrong with that.

Remember the Trust Theo types (like Rozner) who told you you shouldn't question any Theo philosophy, including foregoing pitching and taking the best college hitter in each draft?

Exactly  for 2005 we should have given him a 10 year $90M deal guaranteed.

Theo basically just failed upwards into 4 Series winners in a 12 year span .

Not with the QBs the Bears have had in our lifetime

Now remember Sox Fan Frank, originator of the BUST comment, your team released their #3 pick the same day as the Cubs released their #4 pick.

So who's the bigger BUST?

And again, a Sox fan posting in a Cubs thread about inferiority complexes of the Cub fanbase is CheapFukNuggitish.

No thanks on Schwarber. We don't need him.

I’d take him on the Sox. They need a left-handed hitter and I think he is made for the AL. They will likely lose McCann and already let Encarnacion go so DH is a bit more of an open position. Play him in LF and he’s actually a bit of a defensive improvement. Same with DH. Vaughn is a year away and by then Abreu could be dangled.

I think a lot of this off season for the Sox hinges on this evaluation.

I agree with your assessment but none of us nor any of the other experts saw how he played in the Rosemont league, or wherever it was their taxi squad was scrimmaging daily. I like to take it slowly with prospects and let them kick down the door to get a promotion. It sure doesn't sound like the Sox feel that way about Vaughn.

In regards to Schwarber, I'm not doing anything that upsets Eloy's progress. Schwarber might be incrementally better but certainly at no amount that would make you clear a spot for him. Eloy is a crown jewel in this whole thing.
