Apparently the Kasper replacement. This Marquee network has been quite a train wreck. I guess Don Criqui wasn't available.

Len came off the same assembly line as most guys calling games in the majors, but Chris Myers came off the old one, the Mediocre Haughty Blowhard assembly line. What an odd fit.

Gary Bender is offended by that characterization. Those Bears broadcasts were solid gold. Solid gold shit, but gold nevertheless.

If they wanted someone with more national presence, Costas would have been better.

Help me come up with Mediocre Haughty Blowhards. They were sort of a transitional phase before the Squeaky-Clean Wiseass model pioneered by Vasgersian and all the Lucky Sperm Club guys. Gary Bender, that's a great one. Randy Hahn with the Sharks is another. DeWayne Staats?

I doubt Costas is down for the grind of 162 at this point in his career.

Prolly too big of a name as well.

Costas isn't mediocre but he is a haughty blowhard

JOHN STERLING, that's the gold standard. Thom Brennaman is on the cusp but more Joe Buck than John Sterling.

Ian Eagle is on the young end of the blowhard spectrum, he's basically the same age as Kasper and younger than Wills.

Kevin Harlan works his ass off so he gets a pass from me.

I like Kevin Harlan a lot, too, and would also omit him from the MHBs, but mentioning him helps me get to the crux of the biscuit: guys trying to do Marv Albert but not very well. Harlan does do Marv Albert well, which gets him off the hook.

Jim Nantz, yes, another big one for that tier.

Nantz is full of himself, but I don't think he is a blowhard. Maybe on NFL games more than golf telecasts. Harlan isn't one either, IMO.

Hawk with DJ was an absolute blowhard. He morphed from that into a curmudgeonly old bastard around the time Stoney came into the booth.

Nantz is only 61 (ETA: Same as Meyers) but he sounds like he's in his 70s. He has also made two shitloads of money and lives on Pebble Beach and still has a membership at Winged Foot. Man of the People.

It seems that current 55-65 years olds are the transitional period between Haughty and modern (whether you like modern or not). The Lucky Sperm Club starts at this point

Howie Rose: 66 - the last of Harry's generation of guys who will open rip bad play by their employer
Jim Nantz: 61 - rich guy
Chris Myers: 61 - blowhard
Thom the Gay Hater: 57 - uber-blowhard lucky spermer
Ian Eagle: 56 - blowhard
Dave Wills: 56 - meatball
Mike Tirico: 53 - blowhard ass grabbing Italian guy
Don Orsillo: 51 - meatball, beloved in both Boston and now San Diego
Joe Buck: 51 - modern lucky spermer
Len Kasper: 49 - modern

It seems as if they missed a golden opportunity to get Steve Stone both as announcer and GM.

Mike Tirico is a total pro, but it's so awesome that he's pulling a reverse-Dolezal on the world and there's nothing anyone can do about it. You can't deny his lived experience!

Yeah, some of the national guys are just good. Tirico on football, Kevin Harlan on either football or basketball, Boog Sciambi on national baseball radio for ESPN.

Yeah Boog is the goods.

He’s been on CBB recently.

Boog makes Chris Singleton seem enjoyable and human.

Both him and John Rooney. And Rooney's sound alike Wayne Hating.

Knowing the Ricketts family, you'll get Thom Brennaman
