Have a 1995 Pearl Jam tour poster that I kept in a tube for 20 years and then framed it up 5 years ago. After my divorce i had it hanging in my living room for a while but when I got re-married my wife convinced me it was more of a man cave type picture. If you ever see it you would know what she means, as it has like a guy holding a couple of snakes with another one wrapped around his neck. Anyway I joined a Facebook group and asked around to see how much it might be worth. Got a guy who is interested and now just trying to see if we can work out an agreement and way to get it to him. Kind of sad to sell it but if this guy gives me $600 cash for a poster I paid maybe $15 for, I really can't argue. One of the few times that holding onto shit forever and trying to take care of it might actually pay off. ha ha It is the internet though so I'm aware this could fall through at any moment.

I know a ton about PJ posters (at least from 2010 and earlier). The prices are crazy lately. I’ve got a few that have sold for $3k this year. I could probably fetch $5k for my Perth 98 if I wanted to sell it. There was a lot of speculation back in the day if the poster even existed because there were so few out there. Take the $$$ and run, T-Bone!

I will watch auctions for ones that I used to own. Cincy 2003 for instance, is going for $2k, which is insane. I let it go a few years ago for $300, and even that was a 600% ROI. Strike while the iron is hot. I just really like my 98s so I’m hanging onto them.

Have a week T-Bone, over $500 in golf balls and a poster for $600. Maybe that can pay for some of all the work on the new house over the past year.

update :

the parents each have representation. well had. both lawyers quit the case due to not ever being able to reach their clients. the parents have 10 more days to file and appeal but to do that they'd have to take the initiative to call and ask for new lawyers. So the chances of that are zilch.

and for the past 2 years, DCFS and Help at Home (another org) have been coordinating weekly visits with the parents and kids. someone comes and picks up the kids and takes them to DCFS and will also pick up the parents if they need to and then there is a 1-2 hr visit (monitored). There is a bit of work involved by all partie including my wifes and she has to get everything ready, packs a snack and anything else that is needed (the parents are supposed to bring all of this but they usually don't and if they do its a bag of cheetos and pop....for a 3 yr old) . And the parents only show up like 20% of the time. and yet these planned out visits persisted. Sometimes the kids will be at DCFS, sometimes it will get canceled before the people pick them up. Its a complete waste of time as the mother just basically sits on her phone even if she does show up.

Here is a side note : often times H@H will call us and ask if they can switch the time around from here on out because it doesn't work with the moms schedule....my wife is like, what schedule they have no job they have nothing going on! H@H is like oh yeah. I'm like they are just fucking with everyone.

They haven't shown up for the past 5 weeks...to see their 5 mo old child. Well H@H basically said we are done. We refuse to schedule weekly meetings any longer. if the parents want to set up a visit they can call us. And our caseworkers boss is basically like yeah I've had it. Visits have to be made available but they don't have to actively schedule them.

I am a JA Court GAL in my county. Nothing is more frustrating to me than to have parents that don't give a shit about seeing their kids. The caseworker will pick them up and the parents no show. It makes the kids feel terrible about themselves, and is a huge waste of everyone's time. I am happy for you and the kids that the bio's are about at their deadline. In any of these cases the easiest thing the parent can do is to see their kids. I hate when they jerk them around. If you aren't going to bother seeing them, just go ahead and surrender your rights so the kids have the opportunity to get someone who wants them. God bless you and your family. It is often a thankless job being a foster. There are so many kids out there that would have no where else to go except for people like you. Even more so that you are willing to parent the kids forever. My thanks to you.

the thing that truly breaks my heart is the thousands of kids who are so heavily damaged by parental neglect (pre birth and post birth). Physical and mental disabilities, severe behavioral issues. There are literal catalogues of these children who many people are just not able to provide the care that they need. And they just stack up.

Yeah I thought it might be worth more because it was like the first Ames Bros one but honestly it isn't a great looking poster overall. If I can get this guy to commit I will let it go for sure. Even with framing $600 would be like 3x what I have into it. Getting to an age where I realize I can't hold onto everything forever and have to try to sell like you said, when the market is high and can bear it.

:( I'm not sure it will even buy two new windows. Thanks a lot Hawg.... Actually if I sell this thing I think I am going to sock the money away and plunk it down on a couple of rounds of golf in North Carolina in the spring. Maybe even just one round at Pinehurst #2. Big bucket list item for me.

Love Pinehurst, and if you ever get the chance play Pine Needles, you want be disappointed. It has hosted at least 2 U.S. Women's Opens.

Played Pine Needles back in 1996 at the Junior College National Championships. The tournament was actually across the street at Mid-Pines, which is a nice Donald Ross layout, but I was able to play Pine Needles on an off day. Those were the courses I was thinking of playing if the Pinehurst thing doesn't work out. I think Pinehurst is like $450 for 18 holes so not super excited about plunking down that kind of cash for 5 hours.

As of 9:00 AM today, Mrs. Post and I have officially paid off our house note.

We closed on our house in October of 2013. The day we closed, Mrs. Post and I ordered a pizza at the house and spent the night there - no furniture, just us, well, and the dog. That night the pizza delivery guy got a $100 tip on the $18 pizza order, the Post family had a good day that day so I wanted to try to make an effort to ensure that someone else had a good day that day.

Tonight, to celebrate, the Post family will again order some pizzas. $500 tonight for the delivery driver. It's a great day today for the Post family, gotta try again to share that with someone else.

Congrats. If it were me and I was set on giving $500, I'd give $100 to each of the next five deliveries. (Unless you know it's going to be the same delivery guy.)

I did the same thing the night in 2005 that the White Sox finished curbstomping the Astros.

Congrats!

paid off a home loan in 7 years? That's impressive.

My first night in my first house was my wedding night. Just like you, I gave out a big tip.

Thats awesome. We refi'd back into a 30 year but i put extra principle into a Fidelity account as if we had a 10 year note. ITs TUFF but my hope is that in 6-7 years, that account will equal the balance. At that point depending upon rates though, I may let it ride. But we'll see. there is something psychologically euphoric to be completely debt free.

Look, our rate wasn't anything terrible, 3.25% or something, so there are plenty of quite safe investments that are going to outproduce that easily. So from a logical/financial perspective we quite obviously made the wrong decision. But the choice wasn't a financial one, but an emotion and psychological decision. What we did might not be the right decision for everybody, but it was the right decision for us.

I like to say that there are two classes of debt in the world:

1. A debt that if it becomes distressed forces me to sell my house; and
2. Every other debt in the world.

Debt in class #1 scares the shit out of me, I'm completely unfazed by class #2.

I had one of those 0% financing loans on a car a while ago. The guy asked how much I was putting down. I asked him to make an argument why I would put anything down if the loan is 0%.

Nice job, OnePost! We paid off the loan on the farm a few years ago, and I agree, the math may not be perfect, but there is most certainly something special about not having your home as equity for anything. For me, it was especially poignant as Grandpa had paid it off the first time in 1947 or 48. The possibility of losing the family farm to the bank brought up nightmares of those old, black and white western movies.

I've been fortunate to live frugally and far out-earn our expenses, allowing us to save up for retirement, without having to look at liquidating the homestead to eat!

We keep refinancing, taking out a loans, and adding more debt. It's quite a system we have.

How do you get a car loan for 0%

Now that One Post has paid off his loan early I think it's time for mortgage forgiveness.

There are many car companies offering 0% financing even right now. I know GMC and Buick both have offers 0% for 84 months. I've never seen it better than that.

I paid off my house in August but I wasn’t bragging about it because deep down I knew I should have invested the money.
