The Phillies are about to hire Dombrowski. They will go on a backloaded spending spree by giving away extra years and deferments to lower 2021 and 2022 costs.

So, Kopech. Assuming he does not get hurt, what are you expecting? I assume he will be # 4?

Kopech as 4, Cease as 5. Little pressure on either, plus Katz working with both, hopefully leads to improved results.

I question if Kopech is stretched out enough to go 150 innings after taking a year off. He might be, I don't know.

Oh I think there's a little pressure on Kopech after bitching out of this past season cuz he got dumped or whatever

Not as much as there would be if we didn't get Lynn. Plus once Bauer signs it'll be even less.

Probably not. At this point, I actually don't know what to expect out of him.

First, Kopech is going to start the season in the minors to recapture a year of service. Honestly though, a guy who hasn't pitched in two years and never proved himself at the MLB level SHOULD start there.

Second, he will be on an innings count and I doubt that number is anywhere near 150.

They are looking at legit second FA pitchers like Quintana for a reason. Quintana certainly performed well enough to get a contract elsewhere as a starter. The Sox want him in the rotation opening day.

I would be thrilled if it was Cease who got up above 150 next year. No chance Kopech is there.

They are still looking for starters, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they added 2 more. Kopech will be traded or a wild card in the minors.

Agree on Kopech. He hasn't pitched to big league--or any--competition, that I know of, in two seasons. And while he had a good minor league career, we don't know what we have, and he still has to learn how to pitch. I don't care how fast he throws, unless he wants to be a late-inning guy. Honestly, if he started 15 games and had an ERA under 4.2, I'd be happy. If he starts in the bullpen, so be it. I'm not expecting much.

If the Sox somehow landed a stud pitcher, their rotation (with or without Kopech) would be amazing. Even if they got someone like Quintana, it would still be a rotation without any glaring holes in it, which would be new to recent Sox teams. No more automatic losses or consistently being behind 6-1 after three innings.

Quintana is another one of those guys who is always around the plate and is comfortable throwing 200 innings. That would be four starters who put low stress on the bullpen.

Also, he's a lefty and he said even back in his Sox days that he wanted to be in Chicago his whole career (not just the Sox). He likes the city and he's made his generational wealth where he can be picky about where he plays.

Rumors are circling that the Sox are front runners for a Q return.

I'd be fine plugging him as a #5. He's not spectacular and I'm not sure I want him on the playoff roster, but he saves the pen throughout the year so that they can take the innings they need to in October.

I'm good with that. Besides, he can still go through streaks where he is extremely effective. One of my favorite Sox players before JORR (who is awesome) convinced me that his W-L record made him a # 3 at best. Whatever, he'd be welcome as a # 4 or # 5.

Assuming playoffs is fairly bold

Agreed but only if we sign losing pitcher Jose Quintana.

If they play 40% of their schedule vs the Royals, Tigers and Pirates they are a lock. No one bum slayed better last year.

What the hell is the matter with you all.

No, don't sign Quintana.

For the health and safety of half of the board's ownership it's a dangerous move. If he's signed as an afterthought after getting another starter it's harmless. Brining back guys from the 2016 team is a strange trend though.

White Sox have signed the #1 International Prospect Yoelqui Cespedes, the younger brother of Yoenis.

I think he just became a free agent at the same time as Cespedes. There was not enough money to sign both. There is some word that he is going to hold off this year and sign with the Sox next year. He will play in some other foreign league this year.

It doesn't sound like either of these guys are a no doubt MLB player but its good to have well thought of talent in the system.
