Pottersville was a concept I wanted to write myself as a “fan fic” years ago but I think it’s already been done. I liked the idea of seeing Pottersville day-in-the-life while George walks around as a criminal.

Today, two of those buildings would still be in use. One would be a pizza place (take-out only). The other might be a post office. The others would have curtains or plastic over the windows, and if you looked close, you might see a Romney 2012 sign attached with some long-ago yellowed tape.

And a random cat. I see you’ve been to neponset and Mineral.

Both of them definitely follow this pattern! And a thousand others.

To be fair though the Romney support was pretty tepid with him being a Mormon and all.

Question is when did the fire guy the two buildings next to the bank to force it to stand alone. Or was it a solitary building to begin with.

This movie is seventy four fucking years old.

Wizard of oz is about 80 years old. That's crazy.

I was actually wondering that. I've seen some bank buildings of this size standing on their own, and maybe that makes sense, given this town never had more than 400 Christian souls.

I've asked about buildings in local libraries before, but I wish there was more stuff online. Kind of a lower-priority wish of mine, but it's still on the list.

Historical societies might have pictures of downtowns. Won’t focus on any building in particular but usually some parade shots. We’ve had a few buildings go down in local towns. Sometimes at the end of the row but I know at least one that was between buildings. That was odd.

I've been to a couple historical societies, and the person running it is always fun, if you catch him or her. In Tiskilwa, it used to be open every Saturday from 9-11 am.

Aledo had a couple crazy old ladies. They seemed surprised when I mentioned my great grandfather had been born there, never heard of him.. I’m like, well his dad died in the 1880’s and he moved in 1906 so this shouldn’t be that surprising.

Dads are funny. They don't really care (but they do) or they try or they are what they are. My dad is fine with funny everything else is hard.

It bugs me that his Mrs. Bailey turns out to be an angry old battle axe just because she didn't have George in her life. She had a pretty happy run as Mrs. Bailey. Maybe she'd have sadness but its almost like she has an evil to her when George comes to the door of the boarding house.

They get it wrong. Harry Bailey doesn't die if George isn't there. The older boys aren't letting him come out and play with them.

George's mere existence changed the fates of all of the characters. Harry was destined to die by some set of circumstances at a young age. Mrs. Bailey would always develop into a battle axe without the influence of a supernatural intervention.

Small business owner, Nick, was preordained to be a successful owner of a bar serving hard drinks with no atmosphere. Brothel-owners were always destined for professional success and prosperity.

The introduction of George to the fates led to a change that could not have been impacted by any other individual or mystical creature. George is a positive spiritual unicorn.

I think it's interesting to think how the world is different if George is born but is selfish and just goes and does what he wants.

It's a little less interesting to have George be successful in business from the offer from Sam Wainwright and then return later on with enough money to take on Potter.

At least Potter was honest about being an asshole. George was a dick who yelled at his daughter and let his drunken uncle handle the deposits. I'm sure Bedford Falls would have been fine without him.
