Not a fan of this, but decided to give it a try lately. Been ordering Jimmy Johns delivery a lot lately when I'm stuck at home watching the puppies. At first it was great. I tip $5 in advance and the food comes right away. Then a week ago or so I did this and I got the message that my sandwich was out for delivery, but it didn't show up till 35 minutes later. I live 10 minutes from the shop.

Since then I've stopped the tip in advance and have gone back to incentive based labor system of tipping. If the food comes quickly after it is listed as out for delivery the driver gets $5. If it takes too long I start deducting dollars. Did that the last two times and the food showed up really fast, damn near freaky fast so the driver got the $5.

It's a pandemic. It's winter. If someone is going to risk lung and limb so you can enjoy a Turkey Tom without having to leave your house, tip and tip well--regardless of inevitable delays in delivery. If you can't afford to throw at least a fiver at the delivery driver, make yer own damn sandwich. And then if the service is at par or better, peel off a couple two three extra singles to bonus the driver when they hand over your food.

I usually don't blame the driver if delivery takes a while. I just figure they are busy. But, yeah, if you know it's out for delivery and still takes 35 minutes that's on him. He probably was getting laid at his last delivery old school porno movie style so he likely didn't care about the tip.
