There is some high-voltage DC distribution around, I think the 50K volt line runs from NY state to Canada. If I recall correctly, there is less loss to DC lines.

when you need to transfer large amounts of power at long distances, it's actually cheaper to do it in DC (less wire, less insulation needed). but for most stuff, AC uses less/cheaper termination equipment. In the end though, it really came down to DC power tech (at large capacities) wasn't really around until the 50s, and by then AC was already in widespread use, and it would be astronomically costly to change everything now.

Edison fucked him over because it was free. He wanted to make a dime out of this shit and we got stuck w/ this engine combustion bullshit technology that we have been going with the last 125 years or so.

But Tesla fucked himself over too. Since nobody in the US was going to buy his tech mainly because of the propaganda from Edison and the sheer monetary/political influence edison had in this country, he tried to sell it to the Soviet Union (and the British empire) and after that he was completely fucked forever by our government. Only recently they declassified the files that the feds had tracked Tesla's every move w/ the Soviet Union.

Oh well, maybe in the next civilization.
