This movie is almost 50 fucking years old and yet they somehow are incapable of repeating its greatness? Ridiculous. Shame on you moviemakers of the past 4-5 decades.

I really dont understand why it's so great a movie. Sure it's good, but as time goes by, i'm not sure if it's a great movie anymore. I actually liked Godfather 2 better.

Godfather 2 is great but this post is further proof you would’ve been best served sliding down your mothers throat.

I think Goodfellas is standing on the shoulders of The Godfather, no doubt, but to claim that it is not a masterpiece in ts own right is just not accurate.

How many memes has it generated? Likely just as many as Godfather, albeit without any sequels.

Legendary actors, legendary director, check, check. I think it is quite a fair comparison.

Goodfellas is good. Nobody disputes that.

But they were kind of exaggerating the mafia life in Goodfellas. It was a little bit like a comedy. Which is fine.

Godfather was always serious. Which made it cool. And way better than Goodfellas.

You’re too lost in your social media boogaloo. Let’s not compare movies on the amount of memes they have generated.

Goodfellas is a fantastic movie. Top 20 or so. It was a perfectly great homage/successor to Godfather. It’s not on the same level.

I would also say that Pulp Fiction is just as iconic as Godfather in its own right. It defined an entire generation.

Godfather is the Citizen Kane of mob/crime movies, again, but it does not stand alone simply due to its ultra-serious tone.

I put Goodfellas above Godfather. And I'd put Sopranos over Godfather trilogy as well.

Goodfellas is overrated.

I think the most accurate portrayal of mob life is Donnie Brasco, especially the scene where the guys are under so much pressure to kick up that they're reduced to sawing off a parking meter and hammering it open for quarters. The other mob movies make things seem glamorous rather than mundane.

"Godfather" reveres Cosa Nostra and the mafia, whereas "Goodfellas" exposes the brutality and sick-minded lifestyle. "Goodfellas" is the "woke" "Godfather". But both are masterpieces in their own right. Just because they're both mob movies doesn't mean they're saying the same thing about it.

It's very good, but Peter Griffin was correct in saying it insists upon itself.

Goodfellas is a perfect film.

I think it's properly rated because it works as both a mob movie and a comedy in some ways. It's a great story with great performances and on top that it's fuckin hilarious.

The Howard Stern interview of Francis Ford Coppola was terrific. He said author Mario Puzo never met a made guy. But, got his information from his grandmother.

This is a really stupid opinion. Goodfellas is absolutely on the same level of greatness at Godfather and is arguably a better movie.

I personally have them both in my all time top 5, but Goodfellas is #1 for me.

Goodfellas is better and has a way higher rewatchability factor.

I don't think that Goodfellas glorified the mafia. It showed how ugly the day-to-day was and how willing your friends were to kill you over money. Also, to say it's just a fun and entertaining film compared to the Godfather is just nonsense.

Easily the best film of all time. You got Pacino, Duvall, Brando, Cazalle, etc. all in their prime

The script, score, cinematography, etc. are just perfect.

The Godfather has something that Goodfellas doesn't have. Characters who change and evolve based upon events in the film. Goodfellas is a fun film, but the characters are static. Henry Hill is in a different situation, but he's essentially the same person at the end of the film as he is at the beginning.

Contrast that to Michael Corleone in Part I and then go even deeper into Part II.



One film later, it leads to this and completely breaks Michael as a person.

Godfather addresses much deeper, overarching, universal themes. It is great storytelling with the mob as a backdrop.

Goodfellas is just a mob movie. You don't come away from watching it with any greater insights into life or universal truths. It entices the prurient interest about the life of a mob soldier.

Both are great movies but its pretty clear which one is better.

One goes by quicker and appeals to more people, but there is no question of which one is superior art, and that's what films are.
