After seeing what Hoyer got back for Darvish, not expecting much for Contreras when it should be a top prospect.

I would have thought that Toronto would be a good landing place, as they have a young catcher who is a year away from shouldering the every day load, and Contreras can manage not to embarrass himself at 1B/LF/DH when he is not catching.

But if they are just shedding salary, I'd love to see the Phillies get him and tell Realmuto to go away.

If they want to trade Contreras, why not keep Caratini? Also, do the Cubs have a catcher in the system? I doubt it.

They do, Miguel Amaya is one of their best prospects but it's still dumb to trade both unless you're getting a real good return.

I'd keep him and if you are set on trading him see if he can hit .275 or so and trade him during the season when someone is desperate. I like Contreras quite a bit and will be sad to see him go but if you are going to blow this thing up then at least try to wait and get something for him. In the meantime let him play for your team and be one of the veterans.

And the Padres could see how much better Darvish was with Caratini vs Contreras. It's like Caratini could do a Spock mind meld with Darvish and figure out how to optimize him. No way the Padres weren't insisting on him.

Caratini is a top 20 catcher, but he got exposed a bit at the plate this year as he and Contreras largely split the DH role as well as catcher. With San Diego and the fact that Austin Nola was a legitimate infielder before converting to catcher, Caratini should thrive in a three catcher setup where he and Nola are the backup 1B to Hosmer and he can pinch hit when it's a favorable matchup.

Joe hates Jo Adell worse than he hated Almora. So of course they are going to ask. But I'd rather see Contreras get traded to Toronto or Philadelphia. I don't think that Philly will give up one of their few good prospects, though.

I've wanted to ask that. Why does he hate Jo Adell? He's like their top prospect but maddon seems to not want to give him even a chance. just like he did with Almora.

Almora didnt pan out but I think he got shafted by Maddon in 2017 and 2018 where if he got the time to play in that young part of his career, he could have developed further.

And Maddon wants Adell to go get more experience in AAA because he doesn't have time for growing pains with Mike Trout on the roster.

Well, Byron Buxton was supposed to be hot shit at that point in his career as well and has turned out to be a pile of meh. So who knows.
