if hoyer can get something back for him, like top prospects, trade him for sure. but he's the kind of guy you trade at the trade deadline, now now.

Not this year. There are several better SS who will also be free agents at the same time, starting with Trevor Story (and Lindor, but he will be traded before Spring Training and whoever gets him will not flip him).

I don't get why Hoyer doesn't trade all of their good guys at this point. Get something.

By trading Yu, you've already announced that your not trying hard for this years World Series.

I know you won't get as much as you would have liked for Baez and Bryant.

But you dump that salary. Cuz both of them will be making about 18 million this year. Which Ricketts can bank for future years. Ya know, cuz he's broke right now.

I think you can get decent prospects for Contreras.

So if you trade all 3 of those guys you'll suck. And then get a top 5 draft pick.

Think about it. If you trade all 4 of those guys you'll get back 9 to 12 kids. They won't be top prospects. But if just 3 or 4 of them are good, you'll be happy. Plus the 4 you got for Darvish. So that's about 15 young kids. So maybe 5 or 6 hit if you're lucky.

I think that's the plan. Target the NL West, NL East, and AL East, trade to multiple teams. Do the Dodgers or Braves want Bryant on a rental? The Yankees need another starting pitcher but have cap issues - would they give up Clint Frazier, Gio Urshella, and two A ball prospects for Hendricks? Contreras and Happ to the Rockies or Indians as part of a three way deal to move Trevor Story or Francisco Liriano to whoever doesn't sign DJLM?

The only guy who won't bring anything back is Baez, because there is a glut of SS with expiring contracts. And they won't trade Rizzo unless he goes to Hoyer and requests it.

By a year from today, it will be Heyward, Bote, Hoerner, and a bunch of acceptable older pros like Andleton Simmons, Kurt Suzuki, Alex Cobb, and Andrew McCutchen on one or two year deals. After the lockout, they will decide where they need to invest.

I don't think other teams are going to be too keen on adding payroll and getting rid of their inexpensive players as they see the crises we are in just as well as the cubs

They will be selling off assets on the cheap, just like Darvish.

Currently, nobody appears willing to trade their tiptop prospects. No point in forcing a trade for Baez or Bryant or anyone else.

It really depends on what you think Hoyer can realistically get for dumping the remaining talent. I'm all for a complete rebuild at this point, but I feel that the league is not going to overpay for Cubs talent. Enough years have passed by to see that Contreras, Bryant, Baez, etc. are definitely above average but not consistent super stars like Betts or others. If Hoyer can only get four average prospects for Darvish, Caratini and cash, what do you really think he will get for the others?

Elections have consequences.

His 6 WAR in 2019 masked the fact he was swinging at everything and pitchers weren't adjusting. I feel once that adjustment came, he has looked like shit at the plate for the 50-70 games. That said, he will probably still get overpaid based on that 2019 stat.
