The announcement today about the "Mad Dog" sports channel on Sirius XM, and the comment that more shows will be added has me wondering. Could this be where Mike North is headed come September????
I don't believe that a NYC guy would carry a new channel by himself for national sports. But Mad Dog from NYC doing afternoons, and perhaps Mike North from Chicago doing mornings or middays would (or would not?) attract a midwest audience. North's fill-in on WFAN gave him a brief NYC presence, but he's nothing but a possible familiar name to NYC listeners. Let's see what happens here.

I had the same thought. It would not surprise me at all.

Maybe he's starting a rumor or maybe he works for Mike North. Hey Nostradamus / are you working for North since Mitch fired you?!

He could land a gig like that, but it wont be for the money he thinks. If they did bring him in it would he for about 150,000 to 200,000 and no longer then a 3 year contract. Not bad money, but still a lot less then what he turned down.

Satellite radio is in a world of financial troubles. Not a lot of money to spread around payroll, and no more 150 billion dollar stern deals.

I'd bet on the guy from Pitts. that got canned and used to do some weekend ESPN radio will get a job with them before North.

So many people were convinced that the average consumer would pony up to listen to radio; when cars still have access to traditional stations. For most of us, listening to the radio is something to fill the time while driving; unlike satellite/Hi-Def/cable tv, which we'll make a point of sitting down to watch a favorite show or the ballgame or whatnot.

I think you're alluding to Mark Madden. I've heard he's going to have another show later this year, so you're right.

As they dont do commercials. who is buying XM for Mike North?

You think he is going to pull that "Take away the top 8 and look at my ratings" to Mel Carmezon?

The music channels are commercial free, but the talk channels do have some.

My 1 year free of SIRIUS came up this month. I haven't even opened up the renewal letter.

It's good stuff, just not $200 good and Mike North, Chris Russo or even Howard won't get me to pay $200, when I can get Hampton and Holmes for free! Well once Hampton makes time to be on the air, then I can listen to Hampton say the word "Subliminal"

Didn't North spend quite a bit of time telling everyone how bad Xm was and how much trouble they are in?

Where do you come up with $200 ?

$12.95 per month = $155.40 per year

first off again it's not 200, and I get it for the static free music since I live out in the sticks...I will re-up when the merger is final and I know what content I'm getting...

I pay $70 a year for XM. You call up near the end of your contract and make sure that you aren't on auto-renewel and say that you are going to cancel. They'll offer you a pretty good rate and getting 20 extra minutes of songs an hour or access to better sports programming is well worth it.

Sirius is great if you are in your car alot or listening at work. You can listen to any NFL game on the weekend. You get about 6 NCAA games on Saturdays at a time so you can flip around if you are out in the yard working. For the NASCAR guys, 6 or so channels for different driver audio and 24/7 NASCAR and NFL networks, Stern, etc.

I listen almost exclusively to Sirius. Can't wait to get the MLB package now too.

I'd pay $400 a year but it's only about $150 as the guys said.

Sirius does (or at least used to) offer plan where its $250 for the life of your radio unit, however long you end up making it last.

Ive listened to Russo before, and the big difference between him and north is HE IS ENTERTAINING! Also, not to mention Russo knows Sports 100x better than North.

Russo would have a national following imo because he's been on national shows like Costas HBO and ESPN. North? No way. He has no national thing going for him. He might as well be from Cleveland.

I paid $400 each for two lifetime subscriptions. You can replace three radio units per lifetime subscription. If you listen to music as much as my wife and I do, then it is worth it.

"Free" radio is not free. You are paying for that by listening to 20 minutes of commercials an hour.

I pay $7 a month and as long as I stay on the music stations, I don't hear any commercials. Over the length of a week, I probably listen to 50 hours a week. That means that I get 15-20 hours a week of extra music for about $2. Add in that the variety is much greater and "Free" radio doesn't sound like such a great deal.

Do you also answer those ads in the back of magazines that offer "Free" 3 day, 2 night vacations?

I personally do not find it worth it to lay out an extra $150 cash per year to listen to content that, despite not having commercials, is not all that compelling. Since I am already paying for an internet connection, I simply record internet music station streams into large MP3 files and then listen to them while in the car or on a plane. However, to each his (or her) own....

Sattelite radio is a medium with nantionwide reach which absolutely usurps the scope of their programming. I happen to be a listener who would listen to a mundane city hall update on WLS at around 3 pm than to most of what's considered "compelling" from a national programmer's standpoint. No Sirius/XM for me, thank you very much.

I'm not saying it's for everybody but to imply that you can get the content just anywhere is wrong. Sports programming in particular is stellar. And while I could get podcasts on college football, for example. I'm able to listen to live sports talk on college football around the country, during the week, on Saturday mornings for some pregame. It is top notch.

National programming may not be for everyone but I enjoy hearing the USC game, for example, on a late Saturday afternoon when I'm outside or in the car.

I'm weird and I am in a cult with a sacred cult name but that has nothing to do with satellite radio - it has more to do with Chicago Sports radio.
