No that he officially no longer a defensive back. Doesnt HESTER HAVE to change his number to a WR number? 10-19 or 80-89?

I know other players were force to change in the past and College studs (Bush RB #5, Bosworth LB #44, arrington LB #11 etc) all were not allowed to keep their numbers in the pros.

I really dont care but rules are rules. It would also be funny that all the Hester fans would have to buy a #19 Hester jersey.

I don't care what number he is as long as he scores touchdowns and i don't buy or wear jerseys becausue i thinks it stupid.

I think Hester is grandfathered in cuz he started some where else. He was a CB.

It would have been changed, by now, if the NFL wanted him to change it. He's had #23 for the preseason.

NFL would love it. People already bought their 23 Hester jerseys. YOu can make more money by making thousands of people buy his new jersey.

Some WR's have been given permission to wear different numbers than the 80s in the past. However, since he's changed positions, I think he's allowed to keep his number, so it doesn't matter.

I dont buy it. If he changed to QB or LB I dont think they'd let him keep #23

well they didn't let reggie have #5...so i don't know that they'd bend the rules for hester...

Running backs can be #23, and they go out for passes..

The Chicago Bears have retired many numbers in the long, storied history of the franchise. I don't think Devin needs to change his number from #23 to a more traditional receiver number in the 80s. I think part of the reason is $$$$. Those that aren't buying Brian Urlacher's #54, Tommie Harris' #91 or Mike Brown's #30 are buying Devin Hester's #23. I wish I had one of those jerseys, even though an authentic jersey costs about $150.

I think due to some licensing deal he's probably designated as a KR/WR rather than WR/KR. There's some loophole or missed checkmark in a contract somewhere that grants the bears/nfl to make gobs of money by keeping him as 23 and keeping his jersey on shelves.

Touche, my friend, especially considering that Mike's career has been injury riddled in recent years...Then again, when I worked the Bears home games the last 4 years, I've seen fans sport the #18 for Kyle Orton, the #8 for Rex Grossman, plus players who have long since left the roster, such as #32 for Cedric Benson, the #9 for Jim McMahon & not Robbie Gould, plus the #39 for Curtis Enis & #31 Rashaan Salaam. In fact, I have a card at my desk at work from "Bearman", who sports the #46 and looks like he should be on the field instead of a fanatic...

W_Z, the reason Bush could not wear 5 was because 1-9 is only reserved for QB's, kickers and punters.
