I'll take him. Why the hell not? Tyrod Taylor also a free agent. Bring him in.

Because they both suck at least as much as (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky. What's the point?

Because we've seen (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky and know what he is. It's over. He's not coming back. They could put just about anyone under center and get Trubisky-like performances. The difference is anybody else could end up being an improvement.

Both are better than Mitch

I don't think Brissett sucks. GF is a Colts fan so have to watch all their games. He can actually run an offense with progressions. It looked like a lot of the stuff they're running with (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky is one read or one half of the field. That's crazy they have to do that as long as he's been in the system. Brissett would come pretty cheap just wanting an opportunity to start. He's a much better option than (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky or Foles IMO.

I've seen him play several times, and nothing stood out as spectacular. His two years as a starter he was really average. Maybe he's better than those stats, but I don't think there is a lot of precedent for 28 year old journeymen quarterbacks turning great.

Unless the Bears luck out and back into a good veteran QB or Foles plays much better with a stable offensive line Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy will get the Goodfellas treatment next year.

If it were me I would want them to sign a guy with some upside who is cheap. I wouldn't want this regime signing or trading for a name guy or worse drafting a QB in the 1st round. I'd want as little mess for the next GM/HC to clean up as possible if things go tits up.

I disagree, this is the perfect year to draft one if there’s one they like that falls to them. I personally believe this is a deeply talented QB draft class.

Odds are if they drafted one that they wouldn’t start right away anyhow -which is the real reason I don’t think they’ll do it. This current regime needs something right now, they don’t have the luxury of time. Unless the next Patrick Mahomes is sitting there at 20 and they can prove it right away.

Going with your take they might as well stick with Foles then. Won’t be much difference between him and another journeymen, and Foles already knows the system.

jacoby or tyrod? yuck. i'd be ok with Tyrod only if he brings his special skill with him.... losing his starting job to a talented rookie.

The Colts paid Rivers $25 million for one year so they wouldn't have to play Jacoby Brissett, one year after giving Brissett $30 million over 2 years. Let Foles and some rookie quarterback battle it out next year.

You really want Pace drafting another rookie?

I’d rather they just sign a guy like Brissett, lose 10 games and then have a clean slate heading into the 2022 draft.

That's it right there. Now we have to hope Nagy's "collaboration" can offset Pace's stupidity.

I do because it's at least 51% luck in getting the right guy unless you have the #1 pick and it works out that you get the type of quarterback that everyone knows deserves to go there.

Mahomes was the third pick in the draft, and 9 teams passed on him along with every other team including the Chiefs not thinking he was good enough to trade up to get before pick 10.

I can see that I was most fortunate to have missed hearing this dick parade live.

What a worthless press conference ... what a crock of shit.

Here's an organization rife with ineptitude at all levels ... eh, let's basically leave things as they are and it'll all shake out nicely I'm sure. Dopes.

Maybe Pace will do better at picking a QB ... hard to do much worse. But that's the Bears strategy - just muddle through and hope in the off chance you get lucky. Jesse Ventura said, "better to be lucky than good, Monsoon" ... this outfit is neither.

Mahomes is obviously a unique talent but his drafting is probably instructive for a bears team without a top pick.

Based on all of the reporting, he ended up on the Chiefs almost entirely due to the the GM’s obsession with him. Pace picked Mitch because he liked his car.

Here's what will happen: They will draft a QB, Foles will start but inevitably get hurt or suck, the rookie will come in and show modest potential, they'll finish 7-9, and everyone will stay on as George/Ted claim they see progress.

I'm just talking about in general though. Mahomes is a prime example.

Take any quarterback who wasn't the first overall pick who you wish was on the Bears. How did that team get them? Rodgers nearly fell out of the first round and wasn't the first one taken. Brees was the first pick in the second round, and the Saints signed him as a free agent. Justin Herbert was the third quarterback taken in the 2020 draft, and the guy taken ahead of him is on the trading block after one year. Josh Allen, third quarterback taken. That's just a random sampling but it's almost always the case that when you look at the successful quarterbacks, outside of the #1 picks in the draft, that they happened to be lottery tickets that hit rather than some great insight from a GM that really knew how to pick quarterbacks.

Maybe those guys burnish the GM’s cred after the fact, but it seems like the common denominator in most cases is a competent drafter making the decision.

Did you say prior to Mitch that you must have a great QB with a 1st round grade to win, always? I am not trying to jag you but it is how I remember it.

I think even that is questionable though. Bill O'Brien drafted Watson and got fired. There are very few GM's out there who draft two great quarterbacks but that is also because normally drafting one is enough.

Not always. It's by far your best shot of getting one. The odds of finding the next Brady or Wilson past round 1 are incredibly low. There is some success from round 2 but it's much higher for round 1 for obvious reasons.

I’m not going to put Watson - one of the greatest college QBs of all-time from a major program - in the same league as guys like Allen, Herbert, Brees, Rodgers, etc. when drafted.

Watson seemed like a no brainer, unless you had legitimate concerns re: injuries (which in a roundabout way, gets you back to Pace’s incompetence).

Watson was the third qb drafted though I keep on thinking he was ahead of Mahomes for some reason.

That's not how it was viewed at the draft though. Watson went 12th. That means that not only did 11 teams pass on them but it becomes far easier to trade up to 9 if you are team that could use a quarterback as good as him if you knew he was truly that special of a talent.

I loved Watson but even I wouldn't have picked him in the top 20.. He had major knee surgery two times before he was 21.

Pace obviously screwed the pooch. He made it worse with the trade up. In his limited defense there are Rick Mirer's and Chad Pennington's all over the historic junk pile of first round QB's. It may not make a ton a sense but as it is what we have I trust Nagy, Lazor and other coaches influencing Pace's next QB choice. I really do not count Foles in this crazy year as they hoped to catch old lightning and simply lost out.

I’m not going to put Watson - one of the greatest college QBs of all-time from a major program - in the same league as guys like Allen, Herbert, Brees, Rodgers, etc. when drafted.
Watson was the third qb drafted though I keep on thinking he was ahead of Mahomes for some reason.

Watson seemed like a no brainer, unless you had legitimate concerns re: injuries (which in a roundabout way, gets you back to Pace’s incompetence).

Many forget that.
