Bryant is depressed because his wife blew the hell up. She deleted her twitter, but she's probably close to a deuce and a half right now.

I wonder if Rizzo will smash his MP3 player after game 162!

The last time Bryant got 4 hits was Julie 4, 2019. 4-6
Before that was May 4, 2017. 4-5
He did go 4-4 in 2016. People said it was not good enough

The Cubs should have just bit the bullet and non-tendered him. They will get some team's #2 SP at high-A. (For those of you who remember Corey Black, someone like that hopefully without the arm trouble.) It wasn't worth the energy.

Atlanta (3B/LF) and Houston (in RF) are the only logical spot for him. If there is a NL DH, then a team like San Francisco may see him as a viable candidate for chasing a second wild card spot or flipping him in July.

He can't really do worse than last year.

Bryant had a higher Avg, OB%, Slg, BB, OPS, and OPS+ than Baez last did last year, so yeah he could do worse.

If he starts walking at the same rate as Javy sure. Like I said, he can't really do worse. But yeah in theory he could go 0-532 or something like that. You got me Frank

Baez played in about 20 more games than Bryant and put up worse numbers in several categories. I said nothing about going 0fer the season.

But you're 0fer in this thread so there we go.

I guess since the Jays didn't sign Brantley then Bryant is a reasonable rental for them for 3B/LF/RF. Guerrero wants to play 3B but that's questionable and they'd have to pull him in the late innings anyway.

I'm not expecting much of a return, although the Jays have a good farm system. And Bryant will probably never see Toronto until August, they'll start the season at the spring training complex near Tampa.

Stay out of Cubs business. You finally have a decent team on the South Side and you still let the Cubs live in your head rent free.

I'd give better odds on Bryant being good again than Baez. I always thought his batting prowess was a house of cards. Bryant just needs to get fixed in terms of staying in on pitches.

According to Bryant, himself, he just needs to be able to "have fun again".

Agreed, Baez's success seems entirely dependent on how well he's guessing.

that's a hitter who doesn't know what's wrong and so blames it on his stress which was caused by him not knowing what was wrong and underperforming.

Someone with a brain and two eyes can figure it out. Dude got hit in the head. He's not seeing the whole plate because of an involuntary reaction when a pitch is thrown. Go stand in front of 95 heat and pitches that buckle like they're dropping off a table. You have to go in with full confidence and your body cooperating with you.

He should just ask Dan Bernstein for help then.

I haven't seen it stated much better than that. He runs into pitches. People who compared him to Manny (like his own manager) fail to understand how different hitters see the ball and how the greats see it. Read up sometime on Albert and his ability to see the ball out of the grip and the spin, or Ted Williams who knew exactly where pitchers could get him out because his brain could sort a pitch out in the milliseconds you have as a hitter to make a decision.

Some hitters outthink pitchers and can predict them. Some see the ball better than others and can see spin and rate. Others are blessed with incredible reaction time ability and can get their bat in the neighborhood of the ball quickly. Baez is in the third camp but unlike a guy like Tony Gwynn or Rod Carew, he can't figure out how to bat without overswinging, so his ability to stay on the ball will begin to fade faster as his reaction time gets slower every year. Unless he performs a miracle and fixes the giant loops in his swing.

as I've said before, anyone can "turn" 93 in the cage. Just a question of how long you want to stand there and practice. I played two years of HS ball and can do that.

Slow bats and fast balls do not mix, especially with tiny, soft, weak hands. He can pretend it's wiffeball, but it ain't. It's a 90+ hardball. And you better have some serious batspeed or you're in a world of hurt. Bernstein wouldn't last one round in a dialed up cage, nevermind "turning" on it.
