I disagree with most of what you say but I agree with this.

I’m a huge Bonds fan simply because he was so fucking skilled and disciplined at the plate. Steroids or not. Lived in AZ during most of the 00s and saw Bonds live many times.

But yes, Hammering Hank is still the HR king in my book and somehow vastly underrated in that he’s often forgotten when discussing the top 5-10 players all time.

He's not underrated but he is absent from the GOAT discussions

Hes not the GOAT but he's deserves mention

I was pleased to learn Wilie May's is still alive. Thiy ghb t he died recently.

RIP Hammerin'. Never got to see him in person until he was a shell with the Brewers. His swing was really the first where I took serious and tried to implement. Just hands and wrists. I have a feeling he could smash pumpkins with his bare hands.

Rose and Carew were fun to watch. I always imagined that that's what Cobb was like.

Besides Williams and maybe Ruth, how many would have had today's extreme shifts successfully applied to them?

And in Williams' case, "successful" would mean that he'd hit .335 instead of .355.

If take off Dick Allen and Clemente and add Brett and Gwynn.
Edit: I see Brett already there . Swap Gwynn and it’s pretty solid . Maybe throw Frank or Pujols in then .

It's a silly list. Rose is closer to Matty Alou than he is to Henry Aaron. Power matters. Clemente doesn't belong on there either. He isn't close to the hitter that Frank Thomas or Albert Pujols were or that Mike Trout is right now.

And how the fuck could Carew be on any list that Mickey Mantle and Frank Robinson aren't on?

Tony Kornhiser mentioned Aaron had 40 hr, 90+ rbi, 1000+ ops at 39. I'm thinking no way. But he did. Aaron got old quick in last 2 years in Milwaukee, like Willie Mays with the Mets. It was painful to watch the great Willie Mays struggle with the Mets.

I found it. It was No. 725. The guy selling the ticket and I both had it right. Losing pitcher for Atlanta that day- the Pride of Lane Tech: Buzz Capra.

Yeah, everyone remembers him kicking the ball around the outfield in the World Series in '73. But let's put things in perspective. His OBP that season was about the same as the great Javy Baez for his career.

Yeah. I went to baseball reference to just look at his stats. He was awesome and consistent his entire career.

Like many, I still consider him the HR king. Fuck Bonds.

Babe Ruth is the best ever. But then it's between Mantle, Aaron, Mays, Williams and Trout for the next 5. Put them in any order you want. They're all basically equal in my mind.

Saw 08/16/1973 702 Jack Aker Top 8; 2 outs; 2 Runners On Wrigley Field.

Had to look up the particulars, but remember the event vividly. Box seats 3 rows behind Braves dugout. The look on Aaron's face as he was greeted nearing the dugout. A wonderful memory. 18k fans so my dad must of got the seats from a buddy who was the ticket guy. We'd drive way out of our way to his Blue Island home then off to Wrigley Field. That game ranks in the top few sporting events seen as a yute.

Great stories, Jorr and Vito. That scorecard is very cool, Jorr.

Had to get out my album after I got home today. Not sure if it's real. I sent him the card when I was a yute and he was working for the Braves. Couldn't figure out how to resize the photo.

He retired from MLB before I was born. But I knew all about him.

So his death hit me harder than I would of thought. He was a great player. But he was kind and decent guy also. Unlike Barry Bonds.

So once again, fuck Barry Bonds. Hank Aarron is the Home Run king, despite what the record books say.

Buzz Capra was the highlight of my bar trivia career. Over took some egg heads on a “who was the 1974 NL era leader”.
Only reason I knew that was because I went to school with his daughter he mentioned at some PTA function where he was the guest speaker. I think he also said he was the winning pitcher in Aaron’s 715 game.

I was thinking I can't wait to go down my podcast subscriptions to check out any Hank Aaron related guests. But what can they tell besides good man, his life, racism, accomplishments. Fergie Jenkins was on with ZZ and it was dry. He wasn't a bigger than life comedic personality like Tommy Lasorda. There won't be many if any crazy funny stories from Tom Paciorek's story vault. He was so diplomatic on an old "Today Show" he said Bonds' record was hard to digest. But, he'd put him in the hof, saying it's filled with cheaters. Didn't attend Bonds' final pursuit of the HR crown, but sent notes. The guy was extremely diplomatic. Probably from his early upbringing.

When Aaron retired he has the all time leader in - HRs, and RBIs.

He was second in Runs, and Hits.

I put this in the books section but a young One Post read his autobiography “I had a hammer” because I was a big baseball fan. It was a good baseball book but it was better for a young One Post to get a perspective on what racism was like in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s.

For shame, Jorr. "Force Play" is the correct scoring!
