If this system maintains the amount of moisture it had as it came thru Southern MO you guys are going to get hammered by snow. We had over 2 inches of rain this morning and it came down in buckets. Our front yard looks like a pond.

Actually, RFDC, the storm that hit you is going to miss Chicago. We are getting the 2nd wave.

I haven’t looked at forecast but my phone tells me I’m in a 24 hour winter storm warning starting at noon and towns are announcing the dreaded Snow Emergency rules. Either means they’ll be right and we will be buried or I’ll get a skiff of snow on my truck hood.

Who's your guy?

Out here in the sticks, for years, we had Gilbert Sebenste. He worked for NIU and produced very detailed weather info every day and was available by phone more often than not. NIU shut his whole division down, really miss that guy. Still lives out here.

In-person school for Tuesday has already been cancelled. These weather people have too much power! They're still doing it virtually, so what's the point even.

Need this thing to skew north a bit as Adams County is at the edge of the storm. We have 4-6 inches already but these stingy bastards have kept the snowmobile trails closed.

That rear seat sure looks capable of giving your passenger the Randy Salerno launch angle.

Where I work hasn't yet but I just did a dry run with my in person kids so that it'll be fine tomorrow if the weather hits. My Remote Learners couldn't understand why we'd be able to have class with them if the weather was bad tomorrow...kind of funny.

Description
...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 4 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 5 PM CST TUESDAY...

WHAT...Steady snow and difficult travel conditions expected. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches are expected with locally higher totals east of I-355. Lake Effect snow enhancement may lead to totals over 8 inches in locales nearest to Lake Michigan in central and northern Cook County. Northeast winds gusting as high as 40 mph will lead to blowing snow and periods of very low visibility, especially along the immediate Lake Michigan shore.

WHERE...Portions of northeast Illinois.

WHEN...From 4 PM today to 5 PM CST Tuesday.

IMPACTS...Travel will become difficult. Hazardous conditions are likely to impact the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Some power outages are possible due to the combined effects of the wet, heavy snow and gusty winds. Freezing rain and freezing drizzle may mix in with the snow at times, mainly tonight for locations south of I-88.
November 2018 is the last time we had one storm produce 8"+ snow totals in the Chicago area, so to say we're overdue for a big snow would be an understatement.

We supposedly experienced a "Frost Quake" last night. About 930pm, I was downstairs in my little warm workshop working on repairing a saw. I heard a loud noise, and thought someone had seen the light on in the basement window and hit/kicked or threw a snowball at it- quite unlikely, since we are quite isolated. As I went upstairs to check things out, my wife came from the living room asking what that was? She felt the whole house shake and the windows rattle. Our neighbor hit her on Facebook almost immediately asking if we heard it too? I went out, but could only hear some guys on four wheelers/snowmobiles/dirt bikes riding away through the vineyards south of us. I thought, maybe they had set off some tannerite and got more than they bargained for, and took off. No footprints outside, no flames or sirens. I guess the 5-O and fire departments spent some time investigating, but found nothing.

Wait, Are you a lumberjack?

Nope. While I am a fan of good wood, I have never been accused of swinging the big lumber.

This is an older Rockwell PortaBand band saw that i got in an auction group. It was full of oil, dirt and metal chips to the point it would toss the blade off after about ten seconds of cutting. I decided to completely disassemble it, clean and rebuild with a few replacement parts. First shot at soaking the parts of the electric motor in water and detergent- but these are so packed with crap- and many of the online experts swear it will be okay. We'll see. I have next to nothing invested so far, it might just be more scrap metal, but i have hopes.

My farm shop is only heated when I'm in it, so I can't do water-based stuff out there when it's this cold. I'm planning to build a new shop building in the next year or so, to get it paid off before I retire.

It’s starting up here in last hour. Supposed to get heavy after sunset.

COF there are two folks I kind of follow. Local guy is Terry Swails. Farmers were fans when I moved here and he posts all the maps and talks with people on line now that he is off the air. I’m
Not going to say he’s accurate or anything but I appreciate the process. Other guy is on ag Twitter and I can’t think of his name, Eric Snodgrass maybe, but that’s more long term trends and broader area.
