There’s zero chance Rodgers is gone until at least 2022. First as Hawg noted it makes no financial sense regardless of his salary next season. Dead money is key. Secondly, Love didn’t play a snap this season and clearly isn’t ready to take over. They’re going with the Favre/Rodgers model. Finally, the fans would revolt and Love would take the brunt of the hate. He’d be set up for failure and psychologically destroyed.

My guess is they’ll go to Rodgers with an “all in” plan. They’ll promise to put everything into next season and he’s smart enough to know it’s best for his image to give it another shot in GB. Forcing his way out would be a bad look. After next season there could be a mutual parting of the ways.

The Packers were the best or second best team in the NFL with the MVP at QB. I cannot believe this is even being discussed.

The chance that Rogers would land in a better situation is very low.

Pretty sure it was zero. He did make the covid list though...so there’s that.

I'm not even a Packer fan and that pick annoyed the hell out of me. Its not even about Love. Nothing about that pick made any sense for their situation.

He could pull a Brady and say trade me or Love.

I don't think an already irritable guy like that calling out his coach after the game is going to be like "Oh, you are giving me one more year and then launching me? Thanks!".

Pack will do what they always have: give Love a lot of pre season time and a start in a meaningless game at the end of the season then sell him off before the 2022 draft to some foo

In your scenario he becomes the bad guy. State Farm wouldn’t like that. Also, the statement would be like “oh, you are going to pay me $31,000,000 and then launch me? Thanks!” Besides, he’s not mad at the coach. Clearly it was all Amos’ fault.

I don't think Rogers is irritable, he's just frustrated at the ineptness of the organization.Mccarthy was a moron, he stuck around so long because Rogers makes that team good. The defense is a problem, it's been a problem for a long time.

Brady didn't become the bad guy in New England.

All Rodgers has to say is that they told him that he is gone after one more year and he didn't feel comfortable in that type of situation just like he didn't like it when they did that to Favre.

What are Green Bay fans going to do? Burn Aaron Rodgers jersey because the Packers were giving him one more lame duck year after he won the league MVP?

Precedent suggests they’ll have to buy his new jersey, cut it in half and then awkwardly stitch it together with his Packers’ jersey.

The Packers aren't going to tell him that he's gone after one year unless there was some sort of agreement between the 2 parties about it. Short of that they are simply going to say that they are going to do everything in their power to build a SB contender around Rodgers. How that plays out with the salary cap could be interesting though. Linsley and Jones are possible departures which might not make him happy.

FWIW, Florio is now claiming Rodgers is angling for a new contract. IF that's true and Rodgers goes on record in that regard we'll know where everybody stands. They could commit to Rodgers by extending him and spread out the money to help with the cap hit...or they could ignore it and things could get ugly.

No organization would tell a guy " You're gone next year" that makes zero sense and is a recipe for disaster. They don't even know if Love is going to amount to dick.

He knows what they did to Favre. They drafted a guy in the first round. He's not dumb. He will figure out the long term plan.

Farve was never as good as Rogers, his play was pretty lousy the last 4 or 5 years with GB. He was also 38 and contemplating retirement yearly and showing up for camp late.

Favre was already pulling the "Will I Wont I" retirement bit before they drafted Rodgers. It would be like Pittsburgh drafting a QB in the 1st in this last draft. Rodgers has been consistent that he plans to play for several more years. They aren't very comparable situations.

It's amusing we're gonna do this all offseason again with Rodgers though. He's not going anywhere because of the cap situation. It's pretty much that simple.

Like Brady who demanded they trade Jimmy or him.

I'm not sure how that relates to my post. Sure, he could do that. There's no indication he will though.

I'll wait until a reputable source reports on his new contract demand. Mike Florio is about as plugged in as 312player

Bleacher Report has a quote from Mark Murphy stating that Rodgers will be the QB next year, saying, we aren't idiots.

pizza_Place: It's gone
I saw the replay of the game last night and on that goal to go, on 2nd down, he could have run it too. He wouldn't have got the td but at least he would have made it around the 2 or 3 yard line setting up a shorter 3rd and goal. and if they got that close, i think they may have gone for it on 4th instead of kicking the fg.

anyway it's over, let's look forward to the superbowl
