My main complaint of the sopranos as a whole was the disjointed plot lines of the later seasons and the revolving door of minor characters. It’s taken years of watching YouTube clips to piece together some of it.

Still think it’s the GOAT series though because if it’s impact and the incredible highs they managed to reach with classic scenes between the main characters.

Any scene incolving the psychiatrist or dream sequence was unwatchable..unfortunately that was 35% of the series. That's why it is the most over rated series of all time.. B minus @ best.

I'm excited to see this. I think it will be good. There's been plenty of time to actually write a quality script, whereas the HBO series pretty much went to shit by the end of the 3rd season.

likely. the bar is set too high from the original series.

what year was tony born? i think 1958 - n j drivers license shown in episode when an angry tony pulled over by an angry black cop with an unhappy carm in car. great scene by all involved - carm/tony/cop

for this work, i'm guessing lots of non-tony stuff early. his parents/junior/walnuts. young silvio, artie, etc...i'm expecting to see his real life son as tony in late 1970s-early 1980s. i'm assuming movie gets into the the early 80's - tony and jackie aprile robbing feech's card game, the unrest of '83, as big pussy called it.

high bar is set.

Looks like birth year is 1959 - see 1:38 in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZqLLfpxZkY

Iirc Chris Moltisanti called it the unrest of 83. I don’t think the movie will get that far but that’d be cool.

good catches.

i felt chase needed melfi, because melfi was really chase; telling us stuff we may have not picked up. yeah, some of those scenes probably get FF when re-watching.

i really liked most of the psychiatrist scenes except at the end they did not matter. the dream sequence was pretty stupid at the end of season 2. i remember it being such a wtf letdown.

Yeah, I mean, if you didn’t like the scenes with Melfi and Tony, I understand why you aren’t a fan, since that essentially the shows entire foundation.

I wasn’t a fan of the dream sequences the first go-round because it was so different than what I cane to want from the show. But upon a rewatch many years later, I understood why they were there. As a viewer, I wanted more scenes of the guys counting money, doing dirty work and generally just being wise-guys. But towards the end of the series all that comradery (which wasn’t genuine to begin with) had fractured beyond repair as Tony became increasingly more isolated and paranoid.

The dream sequences, Were meant to alienate the viewer because Tony had already alienated most everyone else in his circle. Chase very much wanted to stick it to the viewer over the last few seasons. The dreams served that purpose as did, of course, the ultimate FUCK YOU: the finale.

I've only seen the last 10 minutes and maybe the first two episodes. Was pretty good.

Maybe I’m a bit senile but I’m pretty sure gandolfini was Tony the entire run of the series.

AJ sucks but I couldn’t imagine fast forwarding through the therapy parts. They’re great.

His interaction with Dr. Melfi and his interaction with his immediate family are what make the show interesting. Without those things it would have just been a paint by numbers mob story, albeit well done, but still something we've all seen countless times.

Which is exactly what some of the numb skulls in this thread want. Just greaseball shit. Which is hilarious because David Chase sought out to do the exact opposite.

Not beyond the fact that they always blamed stuff on unidentified black guys. Or Chris hiring black guys for a hit then killing them after the hit got called off.

Can’t help but feel we may get agenda based bullcrap worked into the overall story that will cause a lot of people to tune it out.

Dude. Relax. You sound silly

It is a good point. You can't get a new show off the ground these days unless you pander to this and focus everything on it.

Not true. Plenty of shows that don’t focus on what you seem to fear.

Plus, chase has a history of purposely not making any character or “side” look entirely virtuous. Or even likable.

I’d be shocked if the goal of this film is to portray events thru the lens of modern sensibilities about race. But something tells me those already fixated on that will find “evidence” to support their worries regardless.

Sopranos is about Daygos whacking Daygos.

Period.

Why be disingenuous? It is pandering, plain and simple.

It's a bit deeper than that

And I believe the 60s timeline and racial stuff was always the idea
