No, do not give me that crap. The Mets owner himself was forced out of the hedge fund business because of insider trading at this firm. He had to change to a family office, meaning managing only his own money.

The SEC takes many enforcement actions each year. Elon himself paid $40m to the SEC to settle charges against him for his Twitter comments.

Shorting a stock is not market manipulation. Melvin makes its required SEC disclosures, I posted one yesterday. If you think something is overvalued then buying puts or shorting is a perfectly rational thing to do. There is way more manipulation daily with the buy side crowd putting up insane price targets.

No offense, but bullshit.

Hedge funds are known to short stocks and then get their connections on Wall Street and in government to talk about how low the stock is going to go... and shockingly, the stock drops. How is that different from what WSB has done? One is common practice because of the people they know, the other is suddenly market manipulation because the big guys are losing cash.

I don't feel sorry for Melvin at all.

For hedge funds that do that, it is manipulation. I hope you understand most hedge funds are net long. Melvin is heavily net long.

I do not believe what these individual investors are doing is manipulation in an illegal sense. It has become a crazy momentum trade.

The brokers are literally picking a side right now, and personal investors are going to feel the brunt of this. It's complete garbage and Robinhood will feel the pain of caving from their users for awhile.

Fair enough, and yes, most are net long for sure. I just hold the opinion that talking to one another and "hot stock tips wink wink" are just as manipulative as what WSB has done. The stock market has value because people believe value exists. It's all funny money that we agree to accept.

This story is being taken up a notch. The brokers now seem to be helping the hedge funds into a dip because you can sell your shares but not buy them and people who don't have multiple accounts have no option.

The SEC needs to investigate that.

The markets are fun. The best thing about wfh is watching CNBC all day.

This has turned into a momentum trade. Everyone is jumping on the same side of the action. It is actually a common trading technique but usually with high quality tech companies. You just ride the wave of a rapidly rising stock without regard to valuation.

The wrinkle here is the rally was led by retail investors and in a stock that had a huge short interest.
