I’ve only seen the original and T2. Watching Dark Fate for the first time tonight, which is supposed to be a direct sequel to those. Sarah Connor is telling Arnold he killed John and Arnold admits he did. I’m a little fucked up tonight but what am I missing here?

I know. This is a direct sequel to T2, right? And Arnold saves John and John didn’t die in that movie right? Arnold did.

Thats the one that killed him. After fulfilling its mission, it had no objective and went about becoming self aware and learning to live with a companion. But thats the one that killed John.

So this is not a direct sequel to T2? It’s advertised that way, that none of the other terminator movies happened between T2 and this. And at the end of T2 John Connor is alive and Arnold asks Sarah to kill Arnold and then the first time they meet in this movie Sarah says you killed John and Arnold says yes I killed John.

Sure but still two points don’t make sense to me then

1.) This clearly would make this not a direct sequel to T2, which it’s supposed to be

2.) Arnold says yes I killed John. He doesn’t say yes some other fuckin t800 that looks just like me killed john

Dude. After T2, another terminator made up to look like the t800 from T2 aka Arnold kills John. After killing him, he fucks off. Upon fucking off, he becomes self aware, finds a platonic BFF, and sends occasional cryptic clues to Sarah out of a form of empathy or guilt. She catches up with him, says you killed John and he's like yeah cuntflaps I did lets go shoot some guns.

Alright. Fair enough. Do you not see how that would be incredibly confusing without at least 30 seconds of exposition thrown into Dark Fate to explain that? This movie was marketed as a direct sequel to T2. Seems like a pretty big fucking deal that an Arnold lookalike killed John in between the two movies and they never really talk about it.

Alright. I’m open to the idea I’m just a moron. That’s usually a safe bet. Still on the side of this was very poorly explained at best though

Edit: A simple Wiki search confirms I’m a drunkard who clearly missed the first part of the movie or was on my phone or some shit. Explains it all.

In 1998, three years after destroying Cyberdyne Systems Corporation, Sarah and John Connor are enjoying life by a beach in Livingston, Guatemala, when they are suddenly accosted by a T-800 Terminator. One of several sent back through time by Skynet, the Terminator kills John and leaves, despite Sarah's attempts to stop it.

I'm watching the end of T2 right now. That liquid metal terminator still holds up as a villain. He's got to be one of the better villains of the 90's.

between t1, 2 and 3 I get lost in time. If you send someone back in time to do something then the future changes.. and if the future changes how were they able to send someone back in time because that future no longer exists as it did?

Loki will explain this to you
