Where is it reported that they are announcing it today? I cannot find anything about it.

Using up vacation time, maybe? I can imagine the station would not want a host taking time off while they're trying to get a new pairing (even if it's technically an old pairing) off the ground.

They announced it on the show last week.

Parkins contract expired at the end of January did it not? And he hasn’t tweeted since the 28th

This is interesting...

It would be hilarious if it ends up being Spiegs and someone else who is not Parkins

Maybe Parko didn't tell his bosses that he was taking a gig on Cowherd's new podcast network?

That would be something if they don't renew him now that he's on a competing network (as opposed to CBS Radio national, or that stupid podcast that Joe O does).

The question is, will it be “the Danny Parkins Show with Matt Spiegel“ or will it be “The Parkins and Spiegel Show”

I assumed he was delayed due to his grandmother's funeral but maybe not.

Parkins' grandmother died? Shit, that would explain his absence.

Yeah....something is up.

Spiegs has clearly been guaranteed a full time spot and for now it’s still the “Parkins Show” but his contract expired a few days ago.

I’m sure Parkins and the powers that be will figure it out but this isn’t what was drawn up initially in terms of a timeline

No. That doesn’t explain it.

You should hear how he announced her passing. While on air. I’ll dig it up. He didn’t give a shit. Pretty funny really

Interesting.

Because Parkins absolutely said there would be an announcement today. Then he said something about lawyers getting involved.

1. Maybe there is a snag in his contract negotiations.

2. Like you guys have said, maybe this Cowherd podcast thing has something to do with it.

Now I'm thinking Parkins being gone from the SCORE is a possibility.

it's news to Spiegs if Parkins isn't back.

That said, there was supposed to be an announcement today....

Yeah. But whatever they offered him would be enough for the mortgage and kid. Bernstein is doing fine with his kids and mortgage. I'm sure it's about 200k. And this mickey mouse Cowherd podcast thing isn't gonna work. That's gonna blow up quickly and be out of business. So if that's getting in the way, he shouldn't have taken that.

i doubt Parkins is making 200K in today's radio economy. Coming from KC, he probably got a bump but not alot. Bernstein has been w/ the company and in the industry 20+ years . Parkins is still a youngster and just coming into a more experienced worker than beginner. So I doubt the Score is paying him that much.

Cowherd thing is national . thats a huge step up than local. He can be the next greeny if he plays his cards right.

Yeah. But it's afternoon drive. It's his 2nd contract. If it's not 200, it's at least 150k. Which is enough for the mortgage, kid, weed and his gambling.

no way. you tend to over estimate these radio nobodies.

why would they pay some unproven kid out of KC coming to Chicago 150 or 100 K. makes no sense. he came in as an experiment. he's not some superstar they signed or a vet like Mac who has a history of pulling in big ratings.

in a dying medium, management has the advantage. they can hire anyone off the street and basically parkins is a step away from being hired off the street.

Chet will probably know better but at the most he's probably doing 50 if even that. most likely 35-40k.

Now Cowherd, theyll def pay him more than the score. and the opportunity has potential for a big pay day down the road nationally.

I know it's down. North once made a million. Mac said he was at 750k at ESPN 1000.

But afternoon drive on the SCORE is at least 150k. Especially on the 2nd contract. And that's acknowledging that it's down. Down by a lot. So I do understand it. You think 35 to 50k? No way. If that's the case then the producers are at poverty level salaries. And I know Shep and Zawaski have houses. And they both have kids. Cuz they've talked about their houses and their kids. So you're wrong.

I mean if you think a host is making as low as 35k, what the hell do you think a producer is making?

If Parkins does renew in drive time, has to be $150k plus.

At the same time, I could totally see him over valuing himself and somehow misplaying his hand and ending up on the outside looking in.

Not the likely outcome, but it does appear there are at least some wrinkles in the process that weren’t anticipated a week ago

those guys have kids and homes because their wives are the ones making the money. not them. North/Mac salaries you are quoting are from 20 and 10 years old. different ball game now.

a producer is probably making barely 30/32.

Ya parkins is on his 2nd contract. you're not getting big money on a 2nd contract in any industry - especially radio these days - unless you are an overnight sensation like Mike North was. Parkins is no overnight sensation. He's just another expendable radio guy. He's not that much better than McDoink or Haugh.

I'm pretty sure he's not making 6 figures on his 2nd contract regardless of being on in the afternoon or not. People tell me Im not w/ the times but you got to get w/ the times. This isnt an industry in its hey dey in the mid 90s where Michael Jordan made everyone money. It's an industry in the middle of a pandemic who just came off a year with hardly any sports to talk about.
