Cubs sign OF Jake Marisnick. Holy shit a .281 career obp. That even beats Oswaldo Guillen's .287.

I’ll take the over on just two ugly years. But Covid plus labor unrest are going to make all of baseball ugly.

Jesse Rogers thinks the Cubs will be sellers in July even if they're in the hunt. I can see not buyers. This is really getting ugly. But, if this rag-tag bunch is still in it in July the division would have to be a mess. The Cubs free agent signings have to be the weakest of any MLB team ever.

If Lindor signs an extension with the Mets by then, the logical move would be to trade Baez to the Mets for pitching prospects. Baez and Lindor are best friends and Baez had said that Lindor is the only player where he'd voluntarily move to 2B.

It could be spun as doing Baez a favor, while they get ready to sign someone like Trevor Story instead. I think the Mets with Lindor and NYC's gigantic Puerto Rican population would be the most supportive place for Baez while he wouldn't be under much pressure to be the star and could just focus on hitting 7th and playing Gold Glove 2B and the occasional game at SS to give Lindor a break.

3 years ago, only Theo and his yes men were the only ones that wanted Darvish over Arietta. nobody else up there wanted Darvish.

Now that Theo is out, Darvish is gone and basically replaced by Arietta. Lot of pettiness going on up there at Clark and Addison.

Crane Kenney said there's flexibility in the budget to add more pitching on M & H. Then, they add Jake Arrieta. Last 2 years 4.75 era, close to 1.50 whip.

I think Arietta will have a bounce back year. Probably goes .500 W/L record. 12-12.

The Cubs are trying to win the division in 2021
(David Haugh heard chuckling). I'm serious. The Cubs are trying to create a championship window like the Yankees did in 2016.

I like the Joc signing
I think Kris Bryant has a comeback year
I think Heyward has another good year

Everything else is crap. But they'll still contend.

If by contend, you mean be within 3 or 4 games of the second wild card spot in late August, then yes. Anything more than that is probably going to take a lot of luck, or incredibly healthy doses of "Vitamins"

670 The Score) Reliver Brandon Workman and the Cubs have agreed on a one-year deal, according to multiple reports Wednesday morning.

The contract is worth $1 million, and Workman could earn an additional $2 million in incentives, as Patrick Mooney of the Athletic first reported.

Workman, 32, had a 5.95 ERA in 21 appearances split between the Red Sox and Phillies in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. That was a stark dip in production after Workman had a terrific 2019 season, when he posted a 1.88 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 73 appearances for Boston. Workman has a career 3.89 ERA across six MLB seasons.

Quote:
(670 The Score) Reliever Pedro Strop will get another opportunity to earn a job with the Cubs.

Strop has agreed to a minor league deal with the Cubs that includes an invite to big league camp in spring training, Russell Dorsey of the Sun-Times and other outlets reported Wednesday morning. Strop had a standout tenure in playing for the Cubs from 2013-’19 before signing with the Reds ahead of the 2020 season. He then made just four appearances for the Reds, posting a 3.86 ERA, before being designated for assignment, after which he signed with the Cubs last September but didn’t appear in a game for Chicago down the stretch.

Strop, 35, had a 2.90 ERA in his previous six-and-a-half seasons in Chicago. He had a 4.97 ERA for the Cubs in 50 appearances in 2019.

Carson Fulmer gets DFA'd by the Pirates to make room on the 40 man. Got to figure that he's done.

Underwood needs a change of scenery. Showed spurts with the Cubs. Interesting acquisition from the Pirates system.

29. Shendrik Apostel, 1B
Age: 20
Highest Level: DSL
Apostel is a massive human being. Checking in a 6’5″ 245 lbs, Apostel had a good second turn in the DSL and should be able to get stateside in 2021.

The new Vogelbach!

Adzolay pitched like shit today. They had to stop the first inning he pitched in after three runs, then he gave up a two run homer the next inning and got pulled after a fly out.

The Cubs pitching draft picks have no command on the mound. But, they can resurrect bum hasbeen relievers off the scrapheap who look much better. The scouts who recommended the bum pitching prospects all should have been canned by now.

Watching the last spring training game now.

Kinda weird they are playing only 2 days before Game 1.

Why not make the last game Sunday, give guys a chance to fly to Chicago, settle back in, a few days off.

Otherwise you're tiring the guys out before the season starts.

I dont understand it.
