Rain is tracking north northeast. As long as the rain stays west of I-4, the track will be fine. We got all night to get the race in.

It is a "sellout" of 30,000 people. They sold all the tickets they could.

I believe so if we believe the Super Bowl numbers.

My Draftking pool is shot. Blaney, Ragan, Busch, and Buescher are all out/damaged. Fucking stupid that NASCAR doesn’t move up the start time when they know rain is coming. This race could be nearly over if they started at noon.

My wife just flew to Daytona this morning. 30K in the stands is correct, but she said there are tons of people outside walking around, hanging out.

Yes, it is the largest audience since the apocalypse started.

I've never watched a NASCAR race on TV or attended in person. This is a first for me.....it's more interesting / entertaining than I expected. Not sure I'll watch it all after the rain delay theater...we will see.

Jordan becoming an owner is HUGE for NASCAR.

Given that you're not exactly a spring chicken and remember some of the good old days, how can this be? I remember being so desperate in the dead of winter to see anything different, I'd watch nearly anything.

I remember when they got out the blue tarps and saying to my dad "I don't think he made it." We were already fearing the worst after seeing Schroeder's reaction when he went to the car. One of the few times I ever called the Score was after that race and they announced he had died while I was on hold. I was the first caller and stated how Nascar had to do something since drivers couldn't withstand these collisions and were dying of traumatic brain injuries. The host quickly got me off the call as if I didn't know what I was talking about. But that's exactly what these drivers were dying from before they started wearing the HANS device.

Not many NASCAR drivers at the time of Earnhardt’s death were wearing it.

DAC is correct. It was around but many were not wearing it and some even thought it increased the risk of injury in a crash.

Iirc, close to a majority of the drivers were in fact wearing it. Especially the younger kids.

There were definitely drivers who were wearing it and they were probably the younger guys, but the majority of drivers in 2001 were more old school guys. Even the race winner Michael Waltrip was not wearing it.

Here is an article from right after Sr's death about the device

https://www.crash.net/nascar/news/84701 ... -earnhardt
