It looks as if next weekend will at least become more seasonal but that’s so far out that who knows. It has snowed a bit every day out here. Just a dusting but still I’ve heard anything from 1-5 inches tonight as a snow forecast.

Yep, the cows amaze me with their routines and changes they make depending on the weather. Late Fall, chilly and raining, and they will all be outside soaking wet. This time of year, morning sun running around in the pasture on the snow, by afternoon all huddled together in the hay feeding portion of the barn. Hot summer days, the whole bunch huddled in the shade of the trees in the pasture, moving with the shadow. Sleeping out in the cool grass at night.

We fruit farmers have more to do in the winter than many of the grain guys do, although they are hauling that yellow gold to the mills like crazy right now! My crew finished trimming my grapes before the end of the year, but they are out working at the neighbor's today. Just have to dress right and keep your back to the wind.

Keeping the cows' waterer ice free can be a challenge when it is this cold, and if the wind blows even worse. Dairy guys might have it worst, multiple trips into and out of the parlor to gather milk while keeping it all clean and healthy, plus breeding and birthing calves.

The new guy renting the 40 south of me spread some kind of manure on it about a week ago, really glad it snows on top, because it was pretty ripe. Just payback for me who stinks the neighborhood up every spring.

I did stop at a new butcher shop today up by Grand Rapids, a real, large operation. But they don't actually perform the slaughter, so I have to go through a third party "Harvester". The shop would not commit to a schedule for 2021 either, but insisted I book it through the harvester. Their place was new and cleaner than the butcher shop I use now, but 85 miles away vice 50. Prices are comparable, but without accounting for the harvester costs.

Yeah. Can’t imagine dairying. We shipped all of our grain in the fall so I wasn’t even thinking about it wanted it out before the roads posted. But the trucks are running from the neighbors. I was at locker the other day and made appointments for the year. It was hard to squeeze in here and there. They found a way to increase capacity otherwise I would of been looking at 2022. It’s crazy. Glad the little processor is making money though. Good for her.

I was supposed to pick up my side of beef tomorrow but I didn’t want to drive across the countryside if the wind chill is that low.

I’ll be heading out to God’s Country next weekend.

We really can’t take much more snow out here. Road is starting to drift over to west of the house. Snow banks are 4 feet tall on the north of the road creating a snow fence, in the three hours I was out working today it went from one clear lane to busting drifts on the way home.

Thankfully it doesn't look like we are going to get anything significant, I don't know what they would do with it at my condo complex.

Ridiculous. Normally I don't mind the snow, but this weather can get fucked. Upwards of two feet in a little over two weeks time is insane.

We got a storm warning but forecast only says an inch. We’ve had an inch or three of light powder every day for a week it seems (usually on the inch end). Last day we saw 40 out here was in December.

It was -8 when I cleared the driveway this morning. Couldn’t feel my fingers or toes after 20 minutes. Another cold one tomorrow and then maybe 2-4 inches of lake effect. I’ve had about enough

I’m not sure I’ve been colder working than I was today for a long, long time. Even at height polar vortex 7 or 8 years ago when we dropped to -28 out here. The wind just chewed through my while doing chores today.

I've had two tire pressure sensors start leaking air. It's gotta be because of the cold. More trouble than they are worth.

It's not good when they estimate anywhere from 5" to 10" and basically tell you to stay home.

It really is, I bet the Dallas and Memphis areas are shut down all week along with others.

My wiper blades need replacing and I have new ones ready to go, but it is too cold and windy for me to mess with them.

Hold on to those and go to the local car parts place and have them put new ones on, problem solved.
