woke up at 5:30 to go get pacazki. The snow was calf deep, I had to dig my car out and the streets were not traversable. I fired up the snow blower and went to work for a couple of hours (helped out some neighbors) then waited for the plows to eventually come by to clear. The paczki was obtained!

It was nice watching the sun come up in the silence with the snow piles. I hope I don't get another opportunity

wife pre-ordered paczki's for her group at illinois masonic for delivery. kw did stan's and sonographer group of masonic a solid by picking up. per stan's delivery was delayed indefinitely

lovely sight driving through the city this morning seeing neighbors assisting each out digging out, pushing cars, and not letting snow deter them.

Lost power at approximately 7:30 PM on Monday night. We live in an older house so we have a bit of temperature difference during extreme weather events. Second floor was about 72 degrees when the power went out, first floor was probably 67 degrees.

Within an hour the second floor dropped to 65 degrees. The Post kids seemed to think the flashlights, eating dinner upstairs, having about 9,000 blankets on the bed, etc. was a great adventure. By 2 AM on Tuesday morning, the temp dropped to 50 degrees on the second floor, was probably in the low 40s on the first floor. At around 11 AM yesterday my in laws had power restored so Mrs Post took the two Post kids to my in laws, I stayed at the house with the two Post Dogs. Yesterday afternoon temperature dropped to 40 degrees on my second floor, and dropped below 32 degrees on the first floor - the half bath had a layer of ice on the water in the toilet bowl.

Power was restored today at approx 1 PM, who knows how long it will last. Almost have zero water pressure, so using buckets to flush the toilet.

This is a pretty bad situation down here. Hospitals are short on water, many many people without power and water. Lots of people down here at risk: people with medical needs, elderly, young kids are really suffering. One of my wife's good friends had a terrible accident at their house while trying to keep it warm that resulted in a catastrophic fire where four people died.

I thought they were going to give an entire parking lot just to Larussa, you know, "to be safe".

Eight hours later house finally back to 70 degrees

One busted pipe but outside the house. Managed to make it to Home Depot and get some fittings to cap the issue, water pressure slowly building here. Will stick my head under the house tomorrow to make sure no pipes in the crawl space cracked. But man, you should have seen some of the shit coming out of the faucet earlier.

My house is old as shit so I bought brass fittings for the repair.

The family posted on social media that they were using the fireplace for a heat source so that is the speculation, but the investigation is still under way. For obvious reasons my wife hasn’t asked what started the fire, etc. Just a terrible fucking situation.

Hopefully things improve for you, OP. All in all it sounds like you are fairing a lot better than MANY others are. Hang in there!

We walked through the new house my BIL was building in Austin, TX just a year ago. I doubt the construction techniques used would stay as warm as the One Post estate did, the age of your place may have actually helped. Hope you get through the bad weather okay from here out.

Yeah Frank, I mean at all times I had the following: water, operational gas range, and places in my house that were above freezing. All my food in the refrigerator was fine for obvious reasons, so I could shit/piss, eat, and be warm enough. Look it was pretty boring laying in my bed under 300 blankets, but I was fine. One night I went over to my neighbor's and got fucked up. That said, there were countless other households that didn't have the advantages that I did.

I also believe that having grown up in the Midwest helped. Just the general understanding of how robust the human body is against even temperatures in the low 40 degree range given proper clothing. Someone who has lived their whole life down here certainly would be more prone to panic and do something drastic to try and provide some more warmth when they see their thermostat read 41 degrees.
